Elianna's Odyssey
Donation protected
This is Elianna and her family. She is close to her 5th birthday and this picture (not a great one) shows her and her family celebrating her big sister's 15th birthday. A few days after this picture was taken, she became very ill and after all the tests she was admitted into the oncology unit to help her fight her leukemia diagnosis. I've known Elianna since she was born and the rest of her family for years. I've watched both of her older sisters grow and have watched and supported her mother, Vicky, through ups and downs. Both Vicky and her husband, Edgar, work very hard to support these three beautiful daughters. But like the rest of us, medical insurance alone, doesn't meet all the bills cancer causes and the needs of a growing family. I'm reaching out to ask if you can help this family make it, as the medical bills pile up. Like most families, both parents work to make a good life for their children, but this type of cancers puts the burden of caregiving for Elianna back on her parents. Thank you for your support, thoughts, and prayers! We will never find the right words to express our gratitude. Elianna knows she is loved and that she is not alone.
"Every day, 43 kids are diagnosed with cancer in the US. More than 95% of childhood cancer survivors will have a significant health-related issue by the time they are 45 years of age. These health-related issues are side-effects of either cancer or more commonly, the result of its treatment. Since 1980, fewer than 10 drugs have been developed for use in children with cancer, as compared with the hundreds of drugs that have been created exclusively for adults. Only 4% of the federal budget for cancer research is dedicated to childhood cancer, it is consistently underfunded." (Facts about childhood cancer - pcf.org)
