Elian is cancer free!!!

Dear family, friends and generous strangers,


Please help Elian.


Our brother Elian is a 16-years-old who loves basketball, loves video games, and music. Everyone is drawn to his dry humor and he always makes those around him laugh.

 

Mid-school year our mom took Elian to the doctors with a fever of 102 that would not go away.  After weeks of testing and multiple professionals observing the results, Elian was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. He was sent to Montefiore Children’s Hospital where he spent over two months receiving chemotherapy.  After his first phase of chemo, he beat it!  He’s cancer free!!!  


He is now in the second phase of chemo, the preventive phase, which he will have to go twice a week for the next two years.  Although we are all amazed by Elian’s strength, the chemo has taken a toll on him. He’s had many complications, including seizures, high blood sugar, kidney failure.  

 

Our parents have been Elian’s rock; our mom has not left his side.  We as a family have taken shifts either at the hospital or at home so that Elian is never left alone.  This practice saved his life because his first seizure happened in the shower at home. Had our mom not been there, we don’t like to imagine what could have happened.  If you or a loved one has had cancer or chemotherapy, you know that it drastically alters your life in many ways, physically, emotionally, psychologically and financially.
