“Rise for Eli" On Tuesday the 4th of February our dear friends Jackie and Stu Kent’s world was shattered by the devastating diagnoses of Ewing’s Sarcoma in the ankle of their brave 12 year old son Eli. In the lead up to the diagnoses Eli had faced two surgeries within a few days of each other and missed his first day of high school. Jackie and Eli were flown straight to the Brisbane Royal Children’s Hospital on Tuesday to meet the team of Doctors that will be responsible for Eli’s treatment and the fight for his life. More tests are needed including full body PET scans and bone marrow biopsies to determine the extent of the cancer. Eli will start chemotherapy on Thursday the 13th of February followed by extensive surgery.
They will need to spend at least the next 6 months to 9 months at the Brisbane Children’s Hospital. Logistically and financially having Eli’s treatment almost 700km’s away from their family home and base will present some unique challenges for their beautiful family. Jackie will need to stop working to take care of Eli and will need to be based down in Brisbane for the foreseeable future. Stu will keep working in his current position, but will now be making bi-monthly trips down to Brisbane to see his family whilst Eli undergoes treatment.
There will be many extra expenses including travel that would need to be covered on top of the loss of Jackie’s income. 4 year old Ella has just started Kindergarten so it will mean some pretty big changes for her little life too. As you can only imagine there will be additional pressure on Jackie whilst caring for Eli and then being so far away from their home and support base.
We are sure that Jackie and Stu, Eli and Ella will need plenty of support and love over the next few months to make it through these very challenging times. Whilst we can not lessen the pain, difficulties or trauma this family will have to endure, one of the ways we can assist is to contribute financially to help reduce the immense pressure they are under at the moment.
Both Stu and Jackie are very proud and don’t expect any help, but we know that your kind and generous support, even the smallest contribution, will be greatly appreciated and would mean an enormous weight will be lifted off their burdened shoulders.
