Elham's Medical Fund

I set this go-fund-me request up for my brother Elham who was nearly killed a few months ago by a hit and run driver. On May 31, 2016, Elham was severely injured by a hit and run driver. He had just moved to California with his wife and young son in April for work.

The accident happened while Elham was riding his motorcycle to his new job in Irvine. According to witnesses the car that caused the accident was stopped on the shoulder before driving into the intersection and swerving into my brother’s lane. After the accident, as Elham lay broken and bleeding, the driver of the car stopped for a moment and then drove off. A witness tried to chase down the car but could not catch up the driver. Ultimately the driver of the car could not be located by the police.

The hit and run driver’s actions caused my brother to smash his face and body against the concrete median while traveling at approximately 50 mph. Elham was rendered unconscious and suffered head injuries, road rash, and broken bones in his wrist, hand, and face. He was transported to a trauma center and where he had to undergo three surgeries. His injuries required plates, pins, and wires to set the bones back into place to facilitate the healing process. His hand is still broken.

Elham lost one of his front teeth and shattered the other as his face hit the ground. A few of the surrounding teeth were also fractured. He also suffered a “floating palate” fracture where his top jaw was broken away from his skull. His jaw had to be wired shut for nearly 2 months in order to fuse his jaw and skull back together. As a result of his injuries, he was taken off work for 9 weeks in order to heal. To make matters worse, one week after he returned to work he was laid off from his job because he had missed too much time due to the accident.

We are asking for help because the hit and run driver not only caused his family to suffer the emotional difficulties of the accident, but also caused the financial difficulties that followed from Elham not being able to work during his recovery.

Because the driver of the car could not be identified or located Elham is facing significant accident related medical expenses. The main and most pressing issues are the dental expenses. Since Elham is completely missing one of his front teeth he needs an implant, and because his jaw was so badly broken, his teeth and the arch of his mouth have shifted requiring major restorative work. The missing and broken teeth are a painful and an embarrassing reminder of the accident.

The estimated costs for the restorative work to Elham’s mouth is $15K. Let’s help him get his smile back. I’ve set this go-fund-me request up for my brother because he is too shy to ask for the help he needs. He’s a good guy and it’s unfortunate that he and his family had to go through this. Anything that you can give to help would be appreciated.
