Elese Cook Neurorehabilitation Fundraiser

This GoFundMe isn’t a cry for help or anything like that it’s more of an awareness and a possible boost in the community over a very vast condition which is FND.
What is FND, functional neurological disorder that is the name now what does it mean, this conditions means that in the brain there are many nerves that help function parts of your body via legs, arms, speech, hearing, sight and so forth and this condition damages the pathways in which these nerves communicate throughout the body leading to the things listed above damaged in a sense of becoming paralysed or very very weak to the point where day to day living is unmanageable, not only does this condition affect the brain it also has other affects like functional seizures. Our lovely Elese is suffering with this condition. She has lost the use of her legs and arms leading to being completely dependent on her loved ones due to being wheelchair and having very little movement, these seizures are very much a dangerous thing as she sometimes has to have oxygen. Her fiancé Kieran has on many occasions had to preform CPR on her which is heartbreaking, there is no medication for them and there is no knowing when they are coming on, the point we are getting at is the healthcare system is not yet fully understanding on this condition meaning people with FND have to fight for themselves to get the further help they need like Physio therapy and proper care and this is why we are raising funds to help Elese, who has had this condition now over two years and has been through hell and back with it where we have fought with the NHS about finding the right ways to help and they have not got the facilities needed or funding to make a difference, so this is more about trying to see if there are people out there that will help make a difference in her life so that we try and find a way out of this for not just her but everyone who is suffering so that we can prove to the right people that if they put in the time and effort there is a way to help.
Elese’s main FND symtoms are:
.Full Body paralysis
.Seizures
.Fatigue
.Nausea
.Tremors
.Muscle spasms
.Memory loss
.Speech impediments
.Swallowing issues
.Dystonia
.Full body Chromic Pain
.Migraines
.Asthma
.Urine Retention
Be mindful this girl is just 21 years of age and has no quality of self independence due to the negligence and lack of knowledge in the system, two years ago she was working full time as a care assistant in a care home loving her life helping people that couldn’t help themselves but one day she had severe stomach pain which led to her falling to the floor after losing feeling in her legs very quickly, she was taken to hospital via ambulance after all checks where done by the A&E department they where going down the lines of having fluid and inflammation on her spine but after having a lumber puncture that didn’t help by the way led to them believing it could be TM which is transverse myelitis which later she had the steroid injections for after the course of steroids she was then discharged from hospital still being unable to walk, A few months later she started having seizures and tremors with no warning or anything on the first day of this she had over 100 seizures that were very dangerous as oxygen was needed for most of them, she was taken back into hospital and we had no knowledge in what was happening. Two nurses and a A&E doctor put her fiancé into a little room and gave him the worst news ever, which was that they don’t know if they can help her and that she might not pull through, That’s when a very clever Neuro specialist took over everything and knew from just reading the notes and seeing her in person that it was FND,which has lead her down this slippery slope of a medical disaster, through all of what has happened to her she has maintained the most positive mindset and good spirit although being in and out of hospital, her wanting to keep going and never giving up has truly amazed us, she is the strongest person we have ever known, there are days where she feels like enough is enough but she still pushed on through. Elese and Kieran have had a date for their wedding for two years now and have pushed it back so much due to the hope that she would one day walk down the aisle to Kieran and hopefully with this help to get private physio she will one day make him cry by making those steps towards him.
please don’t brush past this as it’s a very serious condition which needs more awareness and attention.
Elese was diagnosed with FND, Functional Neurological Disorder, in May 2023. Previously a healthy, happy teenager who worked hard and had so many plans for future with her fiancé Kieran. Elese suffers daily with seizures that leave her tired and confused. Her current state is she is wheelchair bound with paralysis in both legs and one arm. She has a catheter and will be on medication for the foreseeable future.
Elese is lucky to have a loving family around her, in her fiancé, mum, siblings and friends but there is only so much they can do and this disorder has taken its toll on all of them. Which is why I am reaching out to all of you lovely people to get help to get Elese to a neurorehabilitation centre based in Manchester, where she will get ApexNeuro a technique that isn’t available in the NHS.
Elese is a young girl who is an inspiration to us all with her strength and bravery and deserves the best chance of living a life. So please, if you are able to help with a donation on the link this will help her to get a step closer. Any support will be greatly appreciated.
We are hoping raise enough funds to help Elese get this treatment. £10,000 would allow for Elese to receive 3 hours of treatment a day for a minimum 2 weeks and her accommodation at the hospital.
