My daughter suffers with constant back pain, and it impacts almost every part of her daily life. We've tried numerous solutions — from changing mattresses to adjusting car seats — yet, the discomfort persists.
After multiple appointments where we were told it was just back pain, an x-ray finally revealed that she has mild scoliosis.
Scoliosis often goes undetected in children until significant progression has occurred. For those diagnosed with mild scoliosis, early intervention can make a crucial difference. The NHS currently does not provide back braces for young children diagnosed with MILD scoliosis, this is only given when doctors believe it is severe. Even though these braces can play a pivotal role in preventing the condition from worsening and reducing the need for invasive surgeries later in life.
Understanding scoliosis treatment and its impacts is essential. According to the Scoliosis Association, scoliosis affects 3% of the adolescent population globally. For many, early diagnosis and treatment can mean the difference between a life of pain and significantly improved health and mobility. Research from the National Health Service indicates that bracing is often effective in halting the progression of the curvature, which can otherwise lead to severe complications and affect the quality of life.
Our children deserve to live without the shadow of future invasive surgeries hanging over them. Providing access to non-invasive brace treatments for mild scoliosis as soon as it's diagnosed can change countless lives, offering hope and a clearer path for managing the condition.
