Elena Rose Pace Medical Bills

Hello,
The sweet little girl in the picture is my granddaughter, and if she could talk she would tell you this story. Since she can’t just yet, let me.
Her Name is Elena Rose Pace, and she was born on September 23 2016. Her mommy’s name is Katie Pace, and her daddy’s name is Brandon Pace. She had an older sister that was born in Feb of 2012 and passed away in March of 2012. She currently has an older brother named Jaxon who loves his sissy very much.

On October 29, 2016 her mommy took her to the doctor’s office to have her heart checked out. You see, her sister passed away from a heart complication and her mommy wanted to make sure that we were not going to have the same thing happen to her. During the appointment the doctor found something strange, the left side of her heart was enlarged. The Doctor immediately admitted her to the hospital for more tests and observation. Her mommy and daddy were very sad, but they were hopeful that they had caught this issue early enough to be fixed. The hospital drew what blood they could as her little nine pound body just didn’t have a lot. The staff ran the most critical blood test that they could and waited. Through Thursday night some of the meds helped, some of them didn’t the staff was working very diligently to find the right combination to help her sick little heart. On Friday afternoon, a team of doctors and nurses decided that the best course of action was to move Elena to a Critical Care ICU, where the nurses have only a minimum of patients. They continued to draw more blood and work on her meds to get her stronger.

On Monday October 31 2016 her mommy and daddy were able to hold and feed her for the first time in three long days. Things appeared to be getting better.
The Medicine was working and her Echocardiogram showed improvements. (not where the doctors wanted it but improvement none-the-less)
She had improved enough to be moved to a different wing of the ICU, (non-Critical) on Tuesday. Then early Wednesday morning November 2nd Elena took a turn for the worse. While she didn’t code, there were as many as 18 doctors and nurses working on her, and she fought back to stabilize herself. The hospital team decided the best course of action was to move her back to the critical ICU and put in a feeding tube, so that the stress of bottle feeding would not inflame her heart again. They also put in a breathing tube. The decision was then made to put in a central line into an artery in her left leg, all the way to her little heart. This would allow the medicine to go directly to the infected organ, and allow the team to get blood. Unfortunately the line is almost the same size as the artery, and the team now has to watch her left leg so that it gets some blood flow as well.

The Hospital team started the paperwork with the insurance company to gain a precertification for a heart transplant in case that ended up being necessary. On Wednesday morning the insurance approved the precertification.
Wednesday afternoon Elena’s mommy and daddy had their first of many meetings with the transplant team. Just a few of the things discussed were that since her heart is in such bad shape, she would not be able to leave the hospital until the transplant occurred and her body had accepted it. The time to find a heart can take more than six months. (during which she would remain in the hospital) The surgery would be a minimum of 12 hours. The decisions weighed heavy on the hearts of Elena’s Mommy and Daddy for a while. After prayers and discussions, and what Katie described as divine intervention, they made their decision.

Katie and Brandon both decided that Elena is a fighter, Katie and Brandon are fighters, and the only thing to do when life knocks you down is to get up and keep moving forward, Keep Fighting. So Katie and Brandon decided to pursue the heart transplant option. They are going forward with all the tests to find out if she is suitable for a transplant, and where on the list she can be placed. She has been so blessed to be on so many prayer lists and having so many people praying for her, she truly is a lucky little girl to have this much attention bestowed on her.  This is going to take a considerable amount of money. Therefore we are asking for any donation no matter how large or how small to help offset some of the costs of the surgery and/or time that she will have to spend in the hospital.

Thank you for listening to her story. We love her desperately, we wish nothing but the best to you and thank you for everything!!
