Elena Belle Weyers Medical Bills
Hi,
I'm Kelsie. I made this GoFundMe for my sister, her husband, and their precious little girl - Elena. Elena was diagnosed with a tethered spinal cord. (Tethered cord syndrome is a rare neurological condition in which the spinal cord is attached (tethered) to the surrounding tissues of the spine. This prevents the spinal cord from moving to keep up with the lengthening of the spine as it grows. The result may be nerve damage and severe pain.) Cassidy and Brett found a great surgeon in Rhode Island, and decided she was the best fit for the surgery. April 11th they flew out to Rhode Island for 3 weeks. April 13th Elena went under and had the procedure done. The
surgery went well, Elena was discharged after 4 days in ICU.
After a few days of being out of the hospital Elena hit a fever of 105. Cassidy & Brett noticed how Elena's health and demeanor changed drastically. They took her back into the ER to have her checked. After a few days the hospital came back and diagnosed Elena with Spinal Meningitis. (an infection of the fluid and membranes around the brain and spinal cord. Once infection starts, it can spread rapidly through the body.) Cassidy and Brett stayed in the hospital with Elena for a few days deciding what the next best option was. The hospital not giving the results they needed, they found the best option was bring Elena home - to Wisconsin.
April 28th at 10 am, a nurse from Children's Hospital flew in, to help them Weyers come home. Immediately once the plane landed, they rushed to Children's. Elena was taken in right away and antibiotics were back on track. After Cassidy & Brett met with the doctors, they were informed that Elena would be in the hospital for up
to 3 weeks.
I made this GoFundMe in hopes to help cover some of the medical bills that will be coming out of this. Elena is the purest hearted
baby. The stress of the situation is unreal for Cassidy and Brett.
Thank you in advance to anyone who helps - even in the slightest.
