On April 1, 2023, sixth graders from Tiverton Middle School competed in the National History Day Contest at Toll Gate High School. They worked for months researching their topics, writing scholarly papers to defend their research, and created innovative projects to represent all they learned over the course of four months. Incredibly, for the first time in Tiverton’s history, TMS students earned 1st place in their respective categories! Elena, Abby, and Will are now moving on to the National Competition at the University of Maryland from June 11th-June 15th! As parents, we are impressed with the independence, maturity, and work ethic conducted by our children throughout this process. Tiverton should consider this one of their highest and most honorable academic achievements!
We are now hoping our community can come together to raise funds to help offset the costs for these students traveling to D.C. in June. There was never a question that we would keep our children from competing in this once in a lifetime experience, however this trip was certainly not an anticipated expense. We only have a month left before we head to the National Competition, so time is of the essence. Our children deserve to be celebrated and be able to make the most of this experience. Any amount donated will help our kiddos get to DC to compete for the National Title!
With much gratitude,
the Silvia, Gilfillen, and Correia families
