Electricity supply for Hope - combat against FGM
Donation protected
Although Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) is illegal in Tanzania, 32 % of girls still get cut in the Mara region in the north. Rhobi Samwelly nearly bled to death when she was subjected to FGM as a young girl and has dedicated her life to saving girls from FGM and child marriage. She has set up two safe houses in Butiama and Serengeti that act as a refuge for girls fleeing FGM.
Currently, the safe houses are dependent on the electricity grid, which is unstable and experiences daily outages. This a serious safety risk as lighting at night provides a sense of security for the girls and women in the shelters. Additionally, it has a negative impact on educational programs and lessons they organize for the girls, which often have to be canceled in the dark.
Humasol will support Hope by installing solar panels and batteries that can provide electricity 24/7.
