An electric wheelchair (freedom!) for Alena

Donation protected

When Alena was 10 she was diagnosed with M.E and in the following years, POTS. She also has a hyper mobility spectrum disorder, although this is still in the process of being diagnosed.

These conditions have taken away lots of things from Alena;  her hobbies including football and cricket, the ability to feel well, her education, her social life etc. They have impacted on every aspect of her life.

Alena uses a wheelchair for several reasons. With her M.E she suffers from severe fatigue which is exacerbated by doing simple daily tasks and walking even short distances. She suffers from chronic widespread and joint pain and joints semi dislocating due to her hyper mobility. Pots effects the heart rate and causes Alena to have presyncopal (fainting) episodes 2-5 times a day, triggered by standing up. The wheelchair helps prevent these occurring in public. It also helps prevent blood pooling in her legs from standing, also caused by POTS.

Now Alena is 16, she wants to be independent more than ever and has ambitions to become an art psychotherapist. When she uses her manual wheelchair she has to be pushed by someone else and can’t go out alone. This electric wheelchair would help with all aspects of her life. She could be more independent at college, meet up with friends and access her old life. The particular model we want to get is small, sleek and light weight so it can be folded and go in our current car. We would really appreciate any shares or donations, thank you  for reading!
