Hi- my name is Michele Michalak. I’m a home care registered nurse for a 7 year old little boy diagnosed with Nemaline Myopathy at birth. This is a disease of the skeletal muscles. He was born without the ability to breathe , eat, or move on his own. He breathes through a tracheostomy on a ventilator. He eats through a g tube. He relies on others to move him . He is a bright little guy with a perfectly healthy mind.He enjoys movies, video games, and spending time with friends. He is getting bigger and taller as children will. He is now 4’7 in. and 75 lbs. Therefore, it’s getting harder to move him. Although he has nurses in the home to help with his care, his parents are ultimately the ones who are there when others aren’t. His mother has a back injury which exacerbates when she’s moving him repeatedly. The time has come to install an electrical overhead transport system to move him from his bed to the bathtub, or wheelchair . The total estimate for this is $12,000. Insurance does not cover this. I’d like to help this very special family to afford this item.
