Help Us Take Electra Untitled Around the World

We are Vertebra Theatre, a London-based international company creating transformative works that blend dance, physical theatre, live music, and expanded scenography to tell stories of care, and human connection.

Our new production, Electra Untitled, reimagines the ancient Greek tragedy through a feminist and queer lens, exposing how patriarchy and gender-based violence echo through generations and cultures.

Created by a diverse team of artists from Greece, Cyprus, UK, Argentina, Japan, France, Belgium and other countries, this work aims to give voice to the stories of survivors of trauma from GBV and celebrates resilience through art.

Electra Untitled emerged through a collaborative, research-driven process rooted in physical theatre, mythology, and lived experience. The creation began in 2022 at The Place Resolution Festival as part of practice based research at Guildhall School of Music & Drama with an exploration of the original myth of Electra from Sophocles in a dialogue with the Flies of J. P. Sartre focusing on themes of grief, justice, GBV, inherited trauma, and the female/queer body as a site of resistance. Through improvisation, ensemble devising, and somatic practices, performers shaped a physical language that blends movement, voice work, and ritual.

The process integrates a visual composition of live sound, dance and puppetry developed in parallel with rehearsals to ensure the scenography and soundscape evolved organically with the performers’ dramaturgy.

Artists from diverse cultural backgrounds contributed personal stories, questioning how ancient narratives echo in today’s world. The result is a piece that aims to honor both the classical myth and the contemporary visceral experience that speaks to collective memory, gendered based violence in an inclusive way that honors the lived experience of women as well as queer bodies that often carry the stigma of double invisibility and the cycles we choose to break.

Why We Need Your Support
The project has already had some full houses runs in London at the Place, The Arcola Theatre and the Cockpit, Oxford Old Fire station, in Lahore Pakistan, at the British Arts Centre in Buenos Aires Argentina, at Barcelona Fringe Festival, El Hamra Theatre in Tunis, Satiriko Theatre in Cyprus and is now invited to expand its international journey in the US at the Tank Theatre in New York 17-18th of November.

Each of these performances represents a bridge between cultures, bringing together artists and audiences to challenge taboos, foster dialogue, and inspire cross cultural empathy.

  • Free Worksop with local community

We are also delivering free physical theatre and puppetry workshops to local audiences in the cities we tour exploring aspects of Electra's Greek tragedy aiming to create intercultural platforms where survivors can tell their stories and find ways of empowerment.

The project has been funded so far by Arts Council of England, Guildhall School of Music and Drama, SNG organisation and Dionisos Restaurant in Barcelona.

At this current stage we are raising funds in order to make the international touring possible during 2026-2027.

Vertebra Theatre is honored to develop a partnership with LAWA (Latin American's Women's Aid) against domestic violence. 10% of all funds raised they will go to the charity.

About LAWA:
