This photo of Eleanor and baby Woods Hansen was taken three days after birth; it was the second time Eleanor saw and held her son.
While attending a family wedding in northern Minnesota, Eleanor began to feel severe abdominal pain and was brought to the Emergency Room. She was diagnosed with HELLP syndrome (a rare, life-threatening pregnancy complication closely related to preeclampsia) at 35.5 weeks and was urgently transported to a higher-capability medical hospital in Fargo, North Dakota. On December 11, 2022, Eleanor underwent an emergency cesarean section. Sweet baby Woods Benjamin Hansen was born at 11:14 am, weighing 5 pounds and measuring 18 inches.
While baby Woods’ lungs and feeding stabilized in the NICU in a progressively positive trend, Eleanor had been in and out of the ICU for kidney complications due to HELLP syndrome.
Doctors are working in close collaboration with Charlie, Eleanor’s husband, to navigate the best way forward considering all the medical needs: establishing normal kidney function, managing blood pressure, healing from the cesarean, healing from the dialysis port surgery, and bonding with baby Woods. Eleanor received a blood transfusion on December 12th and underwent dialysis treatments on December 15th and 16th. We are hopeful that this will help facilitate kidney recovery and stabilize important labs.
There’s a long road ahead of the Hansen family. Woods is expected to discharge from the hospital by Christmas, but Eleanor could remain in the hospital for weeks, depending on kidney recovery.
Please join us, family and friends, in prayer and financial support for the Hansens. The financial target goal includes their 2022 and 2023 medical deductibles and out-of-pocket expenses, food and lodging expenses as they are hospitalized 4.5 hours from their home and family support systems, and 2 months of living expenses. Every gift is greatly appreciated. Thank you for journeying with the Hansens.
With hope and love,
Natasha (one of Eleanor’s sisters), on behalf of the Holm and Hansen families
