Elderly Asian Woman Assaulted in San Francisco

In the morning of July 2nd, a heinous act was committed to my Grandma who is 71 years old. She was on her way doing grocery shopping in the Mission district in San Francisco (near 16th street) when a despicable person cowardly shoved her from behind and she hit the pavement hard, suffering major injuries. She was taken to Kaiser Permanente Emergency Room where she was diagnosed with a broken shoulder bone, eye socket fracture, knee and ribcage contusion, and a concussion. According to the treating orthopedic surgeon, she will take six months to recover, at the minimum. Compounded to that, due to her other medical conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, she is limited in her options for pain medications. There are many nights where her pain is so severe, she is not able to sleep.

Although there is no way of knowing what motivated the assailant to commit such a cowardly act, one can’t help to wonder if it was racially motivated, given the anti-Asian sentiment since the Covid pandemic. What kind of person would hurt a defenseless elderly, on her way grocery shopping?

 It pains me to see how much she is suffering due to this heinous act. Not only is she suffering from the physical injuries, it was a traumatic experience for her mentally as well. My grandma has always been such a caring, family-oriented person, always made sure that I am well taken care of. Now I would like to do something for her in return. I’m hoping to raise money to cover her medical expenses along with money to cover her grocery expenses until she can recover. I know that the money raised won’t take away her pain and anguish, but I hope to take away some of her burdens. Any amount would be greatly appreciated! May God bless you.
