Help My ARMY Veteran Dad with Asissted Living
Donation protected

Hello everyone, my name is Morgan Tran, and I am fundraising on behalf of my elderly and disabled Veteran father, Matt, who is on a fixed income and in need of financial assistance to help pay for his essential Assisted Living care fees. His actual name is Robert Mathieu, but he goes by Matt (a nickname he received from his commanding officer while serving in the United States Army). He is 73 years old, and served our country in active duty as a medic during both Desert Storm and Vietnam, was a part of the 82nd Airborne and 101st Airborne divisions, and was in the Reserves for many years until he was honorably discharged.
He has struggled with multiple disorders and disabilities over the years (many related to his military service) and as he has gotten older, day-to-day activities have become more and more difficult.
On Tuesday, March 26, these struggles were compounded when my Dad suffered a heart attack that required open heart bypass surgery and a subsequent lengthy hospital stay and rehabilitation. During rehab, it became clear that he would no longer be able to care for himself independently. By the grace of God, we were able to secure him a placement in a local assisted living facility, where he has been happy, healthy, and receiving the care he desperately needs to live a peaceful and dignified elder life. However, this kind of dedicated care comes with a costly monthly fee, and as a retiree on a meager fixed income, he cannot afford the care on his own.
My family has kindly contributed funds where they have been able to, but it has required us to compromise our savings, and we cannot afford to continue paying out of pocket for his care. We have already begun the process of applying for federal financial assistance resources like Aid & Attendance and general Veteran Benefits, but these applications have a lengthy processing time, and he needs urgent funding support in the meantime. We hope his applications will be approved and that in due time, he will receive the federal financial assistance he deserves for his service to our country. It has admittedly been incredibly difficult, time-consuming, and frustrating to sort through all of the information, resources, contacts, and documentation required to begin these processes with the VA.
I am humbly asking for your support in helping my father continue to receive the care he needs. Any funds received from this campaign will go directly toward his cost of living expenses at his assisted living community, and to alleviate this financial burden until he is approved for federal benefits.
My family and I thank you for your consideration in donating, and for your generosity!
