Then came COVID-19.
In an attempt to avoid a total collapse of the health care system, the Peruvian government mandated a complete lock-down of the country. That means we have had no sales, no income since mid-March. No, not even take-out, not even delivery is allowed.
We employee a small team of talented Peruvian cooks and from day 1 of the lock-down my goal has been to keep them on board. There is no such thing as unemployment insurance in Peru, so I have been using money saved to pay salaries even though we have been unable to work. It is now looking like we will NOT be allowed to reopen any time soon, and funds are getting low. It would be a disaster for this to fail after all the work that has gone into it over these years. I am doing all I can to prevent that from happening and I'd like to ask for your help.
Any funds raised will first be used for team salaries. Next in line is the landlord, who is starting to lose patience and wants her back rent. There are utilities and taxes to pay as well.
Once we get through this, we can revisit the expansion plan we were working on before the world blew up. That plan includes scaling to a larger space and then replicating to other urban centres.
el buda profano is too precious to let go. I hope you can help out a bit and come visit when the world opens up again. The sushi is on us, please share!
