Sorpresivamente se ha venido un temporal que golpea la salud de mi esposa Elba Picón, mi compañera por años de años desde la época de estudiantes universitarios.

Elba se encuentra hospitalizada desde el día 13 de Noviembre del 2020 por problemas con el hígado, A principios de Febrero pudimos finalizar el diagnostico después de un largo proceso de multiples pruebas que comenzaron desde Noviembre.

Elba tiene un cáncer de los más raros del mundo. Lamentablemente no es operable por la misma indefinición y estatus del tumor, solo tratamientos de quimioterapia y de inmunoterapia.

Sin embargo, continuamos en la búsqueda de opciones ya que existen investigaciones médicas en varios centros de salud del mundo y que están estudiando cánceres como el que padece Elba. 

Las próximas etapas requerirán disponer de los recursos económicos que con certeza facilitará la aplicación de soluciones.

Hace tres años decidimos venirnos a Quito, Ecuador sabiendo que estaríamos dejando nuestra casa, sueños, amigos y toda una vida de recuerdos atrás para poder vivir más cerca de nuestra hija Gabriela que ya estaba viviendo acá y además poder vivir con algo más de tranquilidad y seguridad que en Venezuela. Pero lamentablemente dada la situación, como no tenemos seguro en Ecuador, los recursos económicos tendremos que financiarlos nosotros mismos.

Surprisingly, a storm has hit Elba Picón's health, my wife and partner for many years starting from college days when we were students and when we first met.

Elba has been hospitalised since November 13, 2020 due to liver problems. In February 2021 we were able to finalise the diagnosis after a long process that involved multiple tests which began in November.

According to specialist doctors that are reviewing her case, Elba has one of the rarest cancers in the world. Unfortunately, she is not operable due to the uncertainty and status of the tumor which has spread outside of the liver, chemotherapy and immunotherapy are the only treatments that are viable moving forward.

However, we continue to search for alternative options since there is medical research in various health centers around the world that are studying cancers similar to the one that Elba suffers from.

The next stages will require having financial resources that will certainly facilitate the best treatment.

Three years ago we decided to come to Quito, Ecuador knowing that we would be leaving our own country Venezuela, home, dreams, friends and a lifetime of memories behind to be able to live closer to our daughter Gabriela who was already living in Quito and also to be able to live with a little more peace and security than in Venezuela. But unfortunately given the situation, as we do not have insurance in Ecuador, and also since public hospitals are overwhelmed with COVID patients we had to finance some of the tests needed for the diagnosis ourselves in private clinics. Moving forward we will also need to finance the treatment.
