Hi everyone, welcome to our family’s page for our sassy 2-year-old daughter, Elara.

When Elara was just 11 weeks old, she underwent a major surgery—a sagittal craniectomy—to correct sagittal craniosynostosis (a condition where the bones on the top of a baby’s skull fuse too early). We hoped that would be her only hurdle, but at her recent pediatric plastics follow-up, we learned that her head shape is restricting her brain's room to grow.

Her care team is immediately scheduling her for a CT scan, MRI, pediatric neurology, ophthalmology, and developmental assessments to potentially prepare for a full cranial vault reconstruction (revision surgery). During this procedure, surgeons will carefully reshape her skull to give her brain the space it needs.

Because our specialist teams are located two hours away, our immediate focus is getting Elara to all of her upcoming appointments, scans, and consultations, as well as preparing for her extended hospital stay and recovery when surgery day comes.
