32 years at the market and counting...
It's Elaine's favorite daughter Amelia! I'm setting up this GoFundMe for my mom to ensure she has another 32 years at the market. I am sure you are coming from the newsletter so you already know the story. Any support is appreciated to keep the Flour City Coffee Company at the Rochester Public Market. Thank you so much for your support and we can't want to see you all again in the fall!

The Coffee Lady's New Project
Hi! It’s been awhile!
Many of you already know that I have a new hobby: Chemo!
It started at the end of March. (For the backstory, see The Chemo Project, below.)
Since then, our daughter Amelia & goddaughter Mady have been holding down the fort, magnificently, for the last 12 weeks. As best I can estimate, it’s going to be mid November before I personally can be back at Market, at least sitting & supervising.
This weekend, Amelia sat me down and had a ‘Come to Jesus’ moment with me. She and Mady have been working 6+ days a week for nearly 3 months, and they are burned out. “We can’t do this anymore.” Though many of you have offered to help on a Saturday if I need coverage, I don’t have any adults for an ongoing commitment and the associated training.
Amelia & Mady have proposed that rather than “pulling a Huey” and shutting down completely for the duration, we go to Orders Only. You call, email or website order by Thursday Noon, and pick up on Saturday just down the shed at the Deli Lady, Nancy – aka Pasta Classics. All orders must be prepaid: Vemno, card, or PayPal. (Needless to say, delivery is discontinued.)
So, effective right now, the stand is closed on Saturdays.
Get your orders in ASAP for pick up this Saturday!
I think I’m more depressed about having to do this that I was by the initial diagnosis. I don’t want to leave you completely in the lurch with inferior coffee, and I still have to pay my rent every month. And I’m really sad that my hot and iced drink people are going to go thirsty.
How to Order
Orders must be in by NOON Thursday for Saturday Pick Up!!

We have to discontinue this service, for the time being.
Backstory
The Chemo Project
I had surgery at the end of March to repair a hernia. They found a bonus.
All told, I've got 4 rounds of chemo, then robo-surgery to yank all the girl bits, and then 2 more chemo. Best guess has this surgery around my birthday in August, and me possibly strong enough for me to do Market early November at the best. (Or at least sit and supervise the kids.)
Not even fully recovered from surgery when I started chemo was not exciting. I’ve had 2 sets of chemo so far, with a 2 week delay between while I was hospitalized with cellulitis. (I was SO pissed!!!) We seem to be back on track, with chemo 3 booked for Monday June 27.

Yes, the Website needs updating…
Unfortunately, my Favorite Husband and Personal IT guy has been laid up – literally bedridden – with a bad hip. The cortisone shot is taking its sweet time to kick in. Til it does, he can’t sit in a chair for more than 5 minutes.
Everything is current, tho I usually have him take the winter seasonal coffees off - so no Pumpkin Spice, Autumn Delight, Pecan Pie, or Winter Spice.
Prayers & Good Vibes
You’ll note that I’m not using That Word. To borrow a concept from Thomas Warfield, “I don’t want to hear that word… I don’t want to have my Being ingest that word and it’s energy.”
I’m focused on the treatment, which I envision as a kind of chemical whack a mole in my abdomen. Its a 3 week cycle, and I’m focused on the good week / week and a half that I have before the next treatment, and being as productive as my limited stamina (and family) allows.
Every week, Amelia and Mady come home and tell me sooo many people are praying for me and us, sending messages of support, plus there have been cards, texts, e-mails, Facebook messages. And even care packages!
“Mom, EVERYBODY loves you!!!” One week was so busy, she even made a sign:
FAQ Elaine:
How is Elaine? Better every day!
When will she be back? Late Fall, October?
How can I help? Buy! More! Coffee!
(She wasn’t wrong!)
The Public Market truly is a family. I miss the Market, and all of you, SOOO much! I find it hard to express how much all of this support means to me and to Nick & Amelia, and how grateful we are!
