Elaine Berger's Brain Surgery

Donation protected
Strong. Resilient. Independent.

These three words describe my mom Elaine Berger. For Elaine, good things in her life came in threes. After 3 rounds of IVF therapy she welcomed fraternal triplet girls to the world. In 2003, with the help of her 3 siblings, Elaine took over the family business and has been single handedly selling ladies hats to the Chicago land area for more than 15 years.

Unfortunately, in the past years our luck with threes has run out. On November 3rd 2019, my father Sherwin Berger passed away from complications due to Parkinson's, cancer and diabetes.

On September 3rd of 2021, Elaine was visiting family in Cincinnati when she began to experienced intense headaches and double vision. Determined to make it home, Elaine drove 6 and a 1/2 hours with one eye closed from Cincinnatti to Chicago.

Haveing never experienced any major medical problems, we went to the ER to determine the cause of her double vision. It was found that mom had a cavernous carotid fistula behind her eye as well as a 5cm mengeonoma tumor on top of her occipital lobe.

After weeks of double vision, pain and redness, on October 3rd Elaine underwent surgery to fix the fistula. The doctor's assered us her vision and pain would get better within 2 to 3 weeks.

Sadly, Elaine is now unable to drive, work, read or go out on her own. She has lost all sense of independence and after much deliberation on December 3rd it was decided she will under go a four hour long surgery to remove to tumor.

The date for the surgery has not been set so this fundraiser has been started to offset the cost of Elaine's growing medical expenses. In order to maintain her independence, we are hoping to place her in a rehabilitation center after her surgery so she can focus on recovery.

This is where you come in. Every little bit helps and even if you can not donate moneteraly we ask that you share with your friends so we can get the word out.

Please remember to cherish the time you have with your family as life can change in a blink of an eye.

Thank you to our friends and family for their ongoing love and support.
