We set up this page to collect funds for mutual aid that will be directly distributed to street vendors and small businesses in MacArthur Park.

As we know, ICE has been targeting the most vulnerable and hard-working individuals in our communities, subjecting them to fear, violence, and financial hardship. We know that many vendors have been impacted, kidnapped, separated from their families, but also many have found themselves unable to work, closing or unable to show up to their businesses due to fears of being kidnapped by I.C.E and their paramilitary terrorist groups.

In the specific region of MacArthur Park, many vendors and small businesses alike have been facing low to no sales due to the climate I.C.E and the police have set for the community. These fears were exacerbated by the National Guard staging in MacArthur Park in early July 2025.

For years, my compañero has worked with the community of street vendors and has established strong bonds with vendors in the Westlake region. Over the past years, they have worked with the vending community to speak up to City officials about the constant harassment faced by the community from the police and the overall marginalization the community has faced (media above-marches from 2023).

Beginning in March of this year, hostile fences surrounding the park on Alvarado, 6th, and 7th were installed by the mayor's orders as a method of "public safety." This action significantly impacted the sales of many vendors, displacing dozens of street vendors and reducing the foot traffic - essential for small local businesses in the area. With the reduced commerce affected by the fences, street vendors were making as little as $20 a day, $30 a weekend, with small businesses' sales dropping an average of 1k a month.

*Besides the impact of a decrease in foot traffic in the area, there have been multiple instances of community members tripping/hurting themselves due to these fences. Under current circumstances, many fear being corralled by ICE in the small pedestrian walking space next to the fences, as these barriers have already opened vendors and small businesses to be surveilled more heavily by I.C.E and police.

We currently have a communication line with 80+ vendors where we have been providing OTG rapid response. For the past months, we have begun the process of forming a mutual cooperative with the vendors to combat the gentrification of MacArthur Park, as many are being kicked out of their lots and spaces to vend, forcing out the community. This cooperative aims to revitalize Westlake- make it a place para la comunidad once again.

Our migrant families, parents, grandparents, and children deserve our economic solidarity.

Donating to this GFM would allow us to continue aid with rent, bills, food, and hopefully take some stress/fear off our community of entrepreneurs! As we know, ICE is very present, affecting many communities emotionally, physically - many are in need of DIRECT monetary aid.

Como sabemos, ICE ha estado atacando a las personas más vulnerables y trabajadoras de nuestras comunidades, sometiéndolas al miedo, la violencia y las dificultades económicas. Sabemos que muchos vendedores se han visto afectados, secuestrados, separados de sus familias, y que muchos se han visto imposibilitados de trabajar, cerrar o no poder acudir a sus negocios por temor a ser secuestrados por ICE y sus grupos terroristas paramilitares.

En la región de MacArthur Park, muchos vendedores y pequeños negocios han tenido ventas bajas o nulas debido a la situación que ICE y la policía han impuesto a la comunidad. Estos temores se vieron exacerbados por la presencia de la Guardia Nacional en el Parque MacArthur a principios de julio de 2025.

Durante años, mi compañero ha trabajado con la comunidad de vendedores ambulantes y ha forjado fuertes vínculos con los vendedores de la región de Westlake. En los últimos años, han colaborado con la comunidad para denunciar ante las autoridades municipales el acoso constante que enfrenta la comunidad por parte de la policía y la marginación general que enfrenta (fotos de las marchas de 2023).

A partir de marzo de este año, por orden del alcalde, se instalaron vallas hostiles alrededor del parque en las calles Alvarado, 6 y 7 como medida de "seguridad pública". Esta acción afectó significativamente las ventas de muchos vendedores, desplazando a docenas de vendedores ambulantes y reduciendo el tráfico peatonal, esencial para los pequeños negocios locales de la zona. Con la reducción del comercio afectada por las vallas, los vendedores ambulantes ganaban tan solo $20 al día y $30 los fines de semana, mientras que las ventas de los pequeños negocios caían un promedio de mil dólares al mes.

*Además del impacto de la disminución del tráfico peatonal en la zona, se han registrado múltiples casos de miembros de la comunidad que han tropezado o resultado heridos debido a estas vallas. En las circunstancias actuales, muchos temen ser acorralados por ICE en el pequeño espacio peatonal junto a las vallas, ya que estas barreras ya han expuesto a vendedores y pequeños negocios a una mayor vigilancia por parte de ICE y la policía.

Actualmente contamos con una línea de comunicación con más de 80 vendedores, donde hemos brindado respuesta rápida de OTG. Durante los últimos meses, hemos iniciado el proceso de formación de una cooperativa mutua con los vendedores para combatir la gentrificación del Parque MacArthur, ya que muchos están siendo expulsados ​​de sus terrenos y espacios para vender, lo que obliga a la comunidad a irse. Esta cooperativa busca revitalizar Westlake y convertirlo nuevamente en un lugar para la comunidad.

Nuestras familias, padres, abuelos e hijos migrantes merecen nuestra solidaridad económica.
