Hi! My name is Michael Lardizábal I'm the Writer, Director, and Executive Producer for the short film El Dilema Artístico.
We are currently trying to raise funds for our project in the hope of being able to shoot and distribute this short film as a part of our Film Thesis at Loyola University New Orleans Digital Filmmaking program. Our purpose is to be able to reach our goal to give us the ability to properly execute the vision of El Dilema Artístico and apply to Film Festival qualifiers for the HBO Latino Short Film Competition.
What's the Short-Film about?
Stuck in a theater with an audience of one, three artists are forced to perform their sets in an endless loop as we get to find out how they got there through the narrations of a mysterious entity.
What's the purpose of El Dilema Artistico?
Our primary objective in bringing my senior thesis to life is to represent my culture-- doing it through the narrative eye I've gained in the last couple of years and trying and do something experimental that represents my views on artists and the modern-day treatment of the "profession".
I'm choosing to paint a sort of fantastical world in my thesis that embodies art through oration and breaking that down into three characters that each have their own craft: the poet, the comedian, and the singer.
Primarily, I would like to leave a statement on the commercialization of artists and how that "career pipeline" typically packages them up stripping a lot of individual thought to appeal to the commonplace consumeristic entertainment stream.
Mainly, I want to create a think-piece about how "art" and "artists" get to point of societal acceptance and the difficulty of sacrifice- that being in regards to identity or individualism.
What's the crowdfunding going towards?
- Locations, currently our team is negotiating a deal with one of our locations for the theater which will need to be financially compensated in order to access and use the facility.
- SAG-AFTA Cast Member, The character of ' THE NARRATOR' will be a (Screen Actor Guild) SAG-Union member which will need to be financially compensated for their time.
- Equipment Rentals, To properly adapt this project, our team is going to require to use the proper tools at our disposal to execute the vision.
- Wardrobe/Make-Up, Each character requires its own eclectic wardrobe and make-up to go along with its distinct personality.
- Crafty/Meal Services, Since the entirety of the crew, will be donating their time to work on El Dilema Artístico, meals will be provided during shooting days.
- Distribution, To execute our distribution plan we have to account for the application fees of Film Festivals sponsored by the HBO Latino Short Film Competition and also have our DCP (Digital Cinema Package) ready and up to industry standard.
What Film Festivals is El Dilema Artistico going to be submitted at?
Georgia Latino Film Festival, Houston Latino Film Festival, Los Angeles Latino International Film Festival (LALIFF), Miami Film Festival, New York Latino Film Festival (NYLFF), and Philadelphia Latino Film Festival.
