We all found out our restaurant was closing permanently. After 73 years in business, El Charro was a staple to the community and our second homes. The staff had little warning, and though we had been trying for months to keep it open throughout the pandemic, the cost of staying open became too great for the Owners to keep going.
Some staff has worked there most of their lives. We all continued on, hoping that our hard work and dedication could keep us in business... but, alas, we closed the doors forever on New Years Eve.
Any donations to this cause will go towards THE EMPLOYEES at El Charro, including kitchen staff, bussers, dishwashers, bartenders, servers, hosts, food runners, and managers who gave their lives and time to helping it stay open thru the pandemic, and who have worked in the industry for years. Abrupt loss of pay, tips, and no plan could put some out of work for months, and some could have to start at the bottom again, in a new job they didn’t have for decades.
Just so we are all clear on what this is, this is not about what the owners did or a nasty jab at them. The owners are kind and wonderful and did all they could to save El Charro, save our jobs, and get us all thru the pandemic. It was a pleasure working for them and had it not been, we wouldn’t have chosen to stay there. Unfortunately, without an end in sight to shutdowns and debt, permanent closure was the only viable option.
We thank you for your donation and wish we could have saved this legacy and iconic location.
