Brenda and Richard “Sonny” Bailey have enjoyed 54 years of marriage, raising their family and residing in the Kanawha Valley area of WV.  Sonny has been a hardworking outdoors-man all of his life. He is now retired from  DuPont. Sonny adores spending time with his family. His greatest joy in life has been spending time outdoors with his great grandchildren Landon {10} and Layla {5}. He especially enjoyed teaching them to garden, fish and hunt. That was until through a catastrophic medical emergency on February 22, 2020, he became paralyzed.

Sonny was the main caregiver for his wife, Brenda due to her emphysema. Now that Sonny is paralyzed from the waist down, he will not be able to care for his wife the way he once had.

The COVID-19 pandemic has terrorized this family preventing them from doing fundraiser's or obtaining aid from government agencies and programs or charitable organizations.   They couldn't even pass flyers due to social isolation.

Sonny has also suffered from a highly contagious antibiotic resistant infection (VRE) contracted in the hospital and has been quarantined. He has been in isolation from his family since the country has been under shutdown. The strict No Visitor policy implemented prevented Sonny from seeing a single family member. He has been trying to cope with the realization he is paralyzed without the comfort from any support system. His reality has become a horrific nightmare with no end in sight.

During the time he was isolated he endured 14 surgeries.  This man wants to go home when he is released; however, if the modification aren't complete when he is leaves the hospital in less than  20 days he will be sent to a nursing home.

Sonny will not be permitted to return home until specific ADA COMPLIANT modicications are complete.  The most urgent is widening their doorways to 36", installing rails and grips.  There are many many more modifications and medical assistance this family needs.  If we all donate something (doesn't have to be money, volunteer help, pass out flyers, help organize fundraiser or simply a card or call to show support, share multiple times)  to help further the modifications.

Sonny has suffered long enough. He just wants to go home where he feels protected, safe and secure. Please help! Even a small gift of $5 or $10 will be greatly appreciated.
Let us bond together today to help this family. Thank you in advance for any support you can give. There is a non-profitmedical account set up for Sonny at the United National Bank. 100% of your donation will go toward these modifications that must be made. Please support me in this fundraiser and help make a difference for this deserving family.

Your kind, compassionate, loyalty and strong responsibility is the greatest gift you can give another human being. God bless your generosity.

My father is scheduled to be released on 5/25/20.  I can't allow him to go into a nursing home.  That will kill him.  I just don't have any money left because my husband & I had to buy a wheelchair accessible van.  We unfortunately aren't wealthy people.  It is very humbling when your forced to beg.  Anything will help, even your time or volunteer skilled labor.
