- Hi everyone,
As parents, we are willing to swallow a little pride and reach out for help, as we are looking at a lengthy hospital stay.
Anastasia is such a brave and strong girl. On Friday, 8/1, she began having seizures at home that earned us a trip to Barbara Bush. She was diagnosed with a pretty bad UTI and what they call Todd's paralysis, which has affected the left side of her body.
A few days into our stay, some of her brain scans began coming back abnormal, which was odd since she was showing signs of improvement.
After all the days' worth of tests and imaging, the signs are pointing to a type of encephalitis.
Last night, 8/4, Anastasia had surgery to remove the right piece of her skull bone to allow room for the brain to swell and come back to normal while she rests. She is still able to respond to questions appropriately with a thumbs up; her right side is still strong! Her left side has catching up to do. We won't know the full extent of any lasting issues until later on down the road. Right now, we are taking things day by day.
The team at Barbara Bush has been nothing short of amazing, and all of her specialists have been wonderful. They are working very closely with Boston Children's to make sure she is on the best treatment path.
There is a device we are looking at for home called the Sami monitor. This may be tough to get approval from insurance for, but we are working on that route. This device is very pricey, which is one of the #1 reasons we are reaching out for help to try and get this $1000 device for her.
The rest of our goal would be to use to cover bills, gas, and additional child care needs.
We will update as much as we can and hope to see Anastasia's beautiful personality come back full swing. Our girl is such a fighter!
Thank you for reading our story, for sending videos, pictures, and well wishes. We appreciate each and every one of you and just know I can't thank you enough for the support during this time.
