Lizzie Warrior Princess vs. Cancer
This little bundle of smiles is Elizabeth. She will be 16 weeks old this week. She is perfect in every way... except one.
During Lizzie's 3 month check at the pediatrician everything was going fine until Dr Brown checked her eyes and realized her eyes did not reflect light symmetrically . So being concerned, she sent Lizzie and her parents to Ophthalmologist Dr Miles Burke.
Dr. Burke saw a small lesion in her eye so to be sure he sent her to Dr. Augsburger and Dr Correa at University of Cincinnati Hospital where they examined her eyes and performed an ultrasound. It was there she was diagnosed with Retinoblastoma. Retinoblastoma is a cancerous tumor in her retina. It is really rare. There are only 300 cases of it a year in the US.
Lizzie has Cancer.
Dr. James Geller of Cincinnati Children's Hospital will be her oncologist. He specializes in Retinoblastoma. They are optimistic about being able to save her eye. She is in good hands and we're confident in that. Her team of drs are some of the best in the country, with Dr Geller being world renowned for his work.
She had to have a central line catheter put in and started her first round of chemo a week ago. Before each session of chemo she will need to have EUAs (Exams under anesthesia) then she will be having chemo once every 4 weeks for 6 sessions. (The chemo and the EUAs are really expensive.)
She will have to have a MRI, after the cancer is gone, every couple of months until she is three. We have a long road ahead but with our team of drs and the prayers and support from friends and family it will be a little easier.
Lizzie's mom and dad are both working hard, but they will need some help. While their insurance will help a lot, the medical bills will pile up and they will need YOUR help.
Please donate today to help this Warrior Princess fight off cancer at such a young age.
