Update: Ryan was discharged from the hospital on Thursday, August 21st! He will need dialysis 3 times per week, labs drawn 2 times per week, and he is on 21 different medications, but he is overjoyed to be outside of the hospital with a new lease on life!

We will stay in our short term rental apartment in Madison until he is accepted for transfer to an NC transplant center, which could take up to a year. In the meantime, we will maintain our home (and mortgage) in NC with the help of family and friends, and create some new roots in Madison to make the most of the time we’re here. Thank you to everyone who has supported Ryan and our family through this journey! It truly means the world!

Update: Ryan had a successful liver transplant on Saturday, August 9th. The surgery went well and he continues to improve, but also has many potentially challenging lifestyle changes ahead of him. We found a month to month apartment here in Madison, which (albeit pricey) will be perfect for Ryan’s recovery and follow-up care. We anticipate living here for at least 3 months until we can transfer care to a transplant center in NC. Thank you so much for your continued well wishes and support!!!

Ryan is currently in the ICU in liver failure at the University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison.

His case will be presented to the transplant committee on Wednesday, August 6th, where we’ll learn if he is approved for transplant here in Wisconsin.

Aubrey and I are here in Wisconsin, spending as much time as we can with him. We are asking primarily for well wishes and words of encouragement, in terms of support. Financial support is absolutely not our priority, but of course will be greatly appreciated, and put to great use as it sounds like we’ll be here in Wisconsin and away from home for the next several months.
