Ekklesia Learning Pod Co-op

When school districts announced that school learning would be 100% virtual this Fall, parents, children and teachers were launched into new frontiers in education, while still recovering from the Spring experience of pandemic "homeschooling."

Ekklesia of North Philadelphia, a small church located near Temple University,  has partnered with families and schools to support education and disciple children in God's ways for over a decade.  However, during COVID, we had to stop our normal way of working and pray about how we could continue in a way that met the new needs of our community.

In North Philadelphia, Spring attendance rates to virtual classes were around 50% due to lack of internet connection and consistent supervision.  Something had to change this Fall!   Ekklesia's leadership decided to host a Learning Pod Co-op in our new building, 901 W Susquehanna St.  In this space, we provide internet and an adult Pod Leader to help children who otherwise would not be able to participate effectively in virtual school.  Children attend 5 days a week, for the entire school day.  Parents volunteer in the Learning Pod one day a week, and thus grow their own understanding of how to use the virtual learning platforms and how to support children in educational activities.  In this way, we continue to foster the education-based relationship between parent and child, but also free up parents to take care of their own work responsibilities during the rest of the week.

At this time, we have enough money to give our Pod Leader a stipend for the 35 hours she volunteers each week through the middle of November.  However, the need is greater than this!  We expect that schools will either open hybrid or stay 100% virtual through the second semester and possibly the whole year.   We would like to continue serving the currently enrolled 8-12 families in our Learning Pod, and possibly open another in partnership with another Community Organization, Providence Center.

Ekklesia's partner, Baptist Resource Network, has offered a $1500 donation matching grant for whatever we are able to raise through this fundraiser.   Would you help us to reach and exceed the $1500?  If we reach it, we can support one Pod Leader through the end of the year.  If we can exceed $1500, we can continue running Ekklesia’s Pod and open a whole new pod to get another 10 families attending school with success!

Please consider funding one day of a Learning Pod, which is $70, or one week, which is $350.  The difference it is making in our community is huge!  The Learning Pod Co-op gives children the chance to enjoy education, makes principals and teachers able to reach students who have been falling through the cracks, and empowers families to grow with others in a safe, supportive and educational environment.
