My name is Kelsey and I am engaged to my my favorite person, my best friend, Alex Herring.
About a year ago, Alex started having issues with his stomach, prompting him to change his diet. Shortly after that, he lost about 25 pounds which he coorelated with his battle with covid. However, he never fully recovered from covid or was able to pinpoint his stomach issues and its rippling effects on his body.
After months and months of "feeling off" and constantly fighting this unknown ailment, Alex decided that it was time to get a professional opinion, get a diagnosis and begin the healing process. After seeking help at Urgent Care, he was sent to the ER where they took blood work, urine and several CT scans of his abdomen. The ER provider saw a few concerning spots on his liver and while holding back tears, admitted him, so a specialist could take a closer look.
The next day, Alex was struck with the news of stage IV colon cancer that has metastasized to his liver. This was nothing even remotely close to what he thought he would be facing, after walking into that emergency room.
Alex was slammed with every emotion possible while trying to weigh his options with the evolving treatment plan. Like many of us, he watched a loved one, his grandfather, battle cancer for years, and knows how that impacts all those who love them. After countless hours of contemplation and reflection, he was not sure that his fight with cancer was one he wanted to drag me, or his family and friends through. He was weighing in on refusing treatment.
In spite of that, Alex was getting a staggering amount of support and encouragement from so many people. Each one of these acts has built up on each other to create a powerful will inside of Alex. He has been singlehandedly fighting this alone for a year. Now he's ready to take the aid of his family, friends, and medical professionals to continue this battle. This is going to be a long road for Alex, beginning with Chemo and later down the road, colon surgery.
Unfortunately, Alex does not have health insurance and working may be difficult while undergoing chemo since he is self employed with one loyal employee working for him. We are creating this GoFundMe to help support Alex while we fight this fight.
Let's help Alex kick cancer's ass!
