Dear community,

My name is Anna and I am urgently reaching out to you to invite your financial support and benevolent prayers on behalf of someone very special to me, and perhaps dear to you as well.

Our dearest Daniel Mauro is moving through a very difficult season of life marked by complex health challenges which have been preventing him from earning what he would need in order to afford the necessary treatments to resolve his medical situation.

Before delving into a detailed history of Daniel's health status, the next few lines may give you a sense of the immediate urgency associated with the intense physical circumstances he has been courageously enduring in recent months:

  • Waking up in the middle of the night gasping for breath because his lungs cannot pull in the necessary airflow, causing the nervous system to step into a fight or flight response, often with racing heart.
  • Feeling moments of extreme panic throughout the day due to chronic shortness of breath, the lack of oxygen impeding his ability to think, concentrate, or even focus on the simplest of tasks.
  • Having to consciously take every breath, because his respiratory system is unable to function automatically — the way it normally does — and suddenly the mere act of breathing becomes an all day cardio workout that takes up all of his physical and cognitive resources.

So what led to these health challenges and how did Daniel find himself in this dire situation involving restricted breathing capacity?

In January of 2010, Daniel experienced a life-threatening car accident during which his vehicle slid off an icy road and into the frozen Gatineau river near Wakefield. Due to the impact of a very intense descent, he was left unconscious for some time and suffered injury to his head, back and spine. Miraculously, he was able to regain consciousness and exit the car, and minutes later was rescued by a local woman, who experienced a kind of foreshadowing intuition that she needed to make her way down this road at that very moment.

Needless to say, this is an amazing story, and I imagine we are all very grateful that Daniel survived what could have been a fatal incident.

With this grace came many more years of study, creativity and community contribution by Daniel. With the help of inversions and spinal decompressions, he was able to make significant progress with healing, which enabled him to acquire sustainable work as a courier in Ottawa-Gatineau. Sadly, he experienced a severe fall in the winter of 2020 during which he smashed his head on the ice, creating whiplash that reactivated and exacerbated the car accident injuries from 2010.

This neck injury brought on additional spine-related symptoms leading to significant challenges with breathing. In the spring of 2021, Daniel noticed increasing neck strain, migraine headaches, and a concerning inability to take in full breaths. His breathing experience continued to worsen over a 4 day period, motivating an emergency hospital visit to hopefully diagnose the cause of the severe breathing difficulties. After multiple medical tests, including X-Rays, EKG, lung exams, and blood work, doctors concluded his lungs and heart were fine, and then sent him home without offering any medical intervention . . . or even validating the seriousness of his chronic breathing struggles.

Perplexed, Daniel surmised that his severe breathing challenges must be related to a physical misalignment in his respiratory system (involving the diaphragm, ribs and lungs) that had likely been compounded by the recent neck injury. Periodically, these intense respiratory symptoms can be triggered by seemingly innocuous physical activities, such as driving on bumpy roads, carrying light items, gardening, walking short distances, and even moderate cardio exercise.

In recent months, recurring bouts of intense breathing difficulties have had significant impacts on Daniel's sleep, with entirely sleepless nights, sometimes multiple times in a week. At times, a racing heart and stressful moments of arrhythmia (irregular or missing heart beats) has accompanied his laboured breathing and shortness of breath.

As you can imagine, this physical disability has been very debilitating for Daniel, resulting in moments of intense anxiety and feelings of powerlessness. Keep in mind, breathing is a basic physiological process which is normally automated but has to be deliberately activated when one is dealing with limited lung capacity; thus, the need to consciously breathe in and out throughout the day feels exhausting and emotionally all encompassing as it consumes virtually all of one’s energy and consciousness. Moreover, the reduced oxygen intake impacts physical energy levels and compromises mental focus. It also poses some genuine challenges in Daniel’s ability to function overall and maintain the necessary stamina to offer his valuable professional services.

Added to this breathing scenario has been an ongoing battle with recurring lung congestion, which when combined with all of the above factors, has left Daniel feeling, on multiple occasions, like he may not be make it to the next morning. The past few weeks have been the most intense for him in this respect.

As a self-employed digital entrepreneur, Daniel does not have access to the necessary funding that could help him pay for the therapeutic services and medicinal interventions that he needs in order to properly heal.

His recent ventures doing more manual types of labour have reactivated his spinal injuries, exacerbating the need for urgent osteopathic and other bodywork interventions. Thankfully, a local osteopath was able to validate that the structural issues involving Daniel's spine, lungs and diaphragm were contributing to his respiratory issues, which conventional medical professionals had been unable to diagnose or even understand. Unfortunately, this professional's sessions are in high demand and are costly, not being covered by Quebec health insurance.

To recover properly and get back on track, Daniel would need multiple appointments with this osteopath over several months, as well as several sessions with a RMT who has experience with back injuries. A variety of holistic supplements, nutritional superfoods, and herbal remedies will be crucial in assisting with the ongoing lung congestion and general spinal recovery process. Access to therapeutic modalities such as a hyperbaric oxygen chamber and red light therapy panel would also be incredibly helpful.

I am reaching out to Daniel’s friends and local community on his behalf, because in my eyes he is an extraordinary human being and soul who has so much to bring to this earth. The wisdom, healing, and insight that he has brought to my experience over the past two years has been life-changing; and with everything that Daniel has created and shared over the years, I am certain that I am not the only person whose life has been touched by his gifts, offerings, and presence.

In that regard, some of you may remember Daniel's numerous events and holistic offerings (from 2007 to 2018) impacting Ottawa’s spiritual and healing communities: the Enlightened Canada initiative, five years of monthly spiritual cinema screenings, the AwakeningOttawa web portal, annual Peace Festival concerts, group meditation events, monthly devotional chant sessions, and workshops on brain health, EMF mitigation strategies, and musical medicine. One of the larger undertakings he was especially passionate about, was the launch of a live Gregg Braden in Ottawa event, for the first time in May 2012.

In more recent years, Daniel has offered profound contributions to the anthroposophical community, drawing on Rudolf Steiner’s spiritual science to illuminate pressing questions of our time. In 2022, he delivered a presentation on the evolutionary freedom impulse of humanity, exploring Steiner’s investigations of the spiritual hierarchies and their role in human development. At the Ottawa Anthroposophical Conferences in 2023 and 2024, Daniel spoke with deep insight about the current influence of adversarial forces and how they are shaping modern-day humanity, warning of challenges while also pointing toward paths of resilience and spiritual renewal.

It is with hope and faith that I am reaching out to you, his personal friends and community, for much needed financial contributions. For those who would like to offer a one-time (or repeated donation) to help get Daniel through this very difficult time, we deeply thank you for your kindness, generosity, and contribution. If you wish to donate, but do not feel comfortable doing so within this platform, you may send Daniel an e-transfer at this address: dgmauro at protonmail dot com

Beyond financial donations, we are also welcoming leads for online work opportunities. Helping Daniel with transportation to and from his therapeutic sessions in Gatineau would be much appreciated, as his experiences with the transit system (and his current vehicle) have compounded ongoing spinal vulnerabilities.

With all that said, Daniel genuinely enjoys empowering others and is very driven by service to his community through his various offerings, and will gratefully continue to serve in whatever capacity he can. In that regard, he would be happy and most fulfilled to continue providing online courses and coaching modalities for those who feel drawn to them. We thank you in advance for your benevolence and generous financial support, as well as for your kind prayers.

God Bless you!
