Hey guys, this isn't something I would normally do, but as you all know Maddie has had quite a rough few months and it has really started to take a hit on my wallet, especially due to having to take time off work. For those who don't know, Maddie has been having quite a few medical difficulties landing her in the hospital in both November, and for 3 weeks starting in December and ending in January. Obviously, emergency room visits and hospital stays aren't cheap, but to top it off she's got new equipment for feeding (ng tube to be specific), and insurance is still refusing to cover the medically necessary diabetic supplies she needs (the new Omniopd 5 system). Now, I'm not going to ask that all of that be covered especially considering some of this is going to be things she'll need for a lifetime, but if at the very least I could get the emergency room and hospital stays taken care of it would take a huge weight off my shoulders. I work what hours I can, but with a medically complex child and no government assistance, I have no childcare for Maddie and can only work so few hours. Anything past the initial goal would go towards Maddie.
If you feel the need for more specific information as to what Maddie has been going through, read ahead. With this most recent stay, it began with RSV, severe constipation, and diabetic complications caused by the two previous issues. It was really just a hot mess of one thing affecting another affecting another, so we headed in. They got her hooked up to oxygen and started flushing her with mirilax through a feeding tube. In no time the constipation was solved, but they continued to flush with mirilax. quickly things went south when Maddie began pooping blood. Initially, doctors ignored the ever-increasing mucus blood poop and at one point were even ready to just send her home on oxygen, bloody poop and all. I refused to accept this as I knew something was wrong. Finally, after about a week of bleeding, I got a doctor to look into things. To sum it up, her intestines weren't great and she was experiencing gastrointestinal bleeding. After 4 days of trying to get transferred to Spokane and Maddie's worsening symptoms (she was so so so pale, barely awake, constantly pooping blood) we asked to be discharged as the only way we'd get into Spokane was driving ourselves to their emergency room. Sure enough, we got in and that's when the healing finally began. It's still going to be a long road to recovery. Maddie eats hardly a thing by mouth, she doesn't want to stand much less walk or crawl, she screams with baths and teeth brushing, she doesn't talk or smile nearly as much as she use to and hardly even wants to play. Not even coloring does it for her. I'm doing what I can to get her back but it's going to take time, patience, and understanding that she went through some pretty traumatic things.
Seriously, any amount will help. Anything at all. I love you guys, and I'll keep you all updated on how she's doing.
