Hi! My name is Samantha. This is my friend Hunter! Hunter is 4 years old and one of the sweetest boys I know! He is a big brother to his sister Blake and a little brother to Gabriel. Hunter loves super heros! And Hunter is my super hero! Hunter has leukemia and is on a mission to beat it! This past year has been exceptionally hard on Hunter and his family.
On July 27th Hunter was admitted to Maria Fareri for febrile neutropenia. He spent several days with fevers before a black spot appeared on his left leg.
A biopsy was done and caused a rapid spread of Mucormycosis. Mucormycosis Is a rare but serious fungal infection that affects the immunocompromised. The infection spread and it spread FAST! Hunters family was told he would most likely loose his leg. He was transferred on August 7th to Cornell Medical Center and Hunter underwent a 4 hour surgery. His leg was scraped and infection was removed. His leg has skin grafts from his knee to his bottom. His parents spent 8 weeks watching Hunter on a fight for his life on a ventilator.
Hunter is a true warrior. He beat
all the odds and kept his leg. He’s now home undergoing intense physical therapy as well as treatment for his leukemia.
In order for Hunter to be home and healthy he requires specific medications. One of these medications is Cresemba, an anti fungal medication. This medication will prevent the fungal infection from returning.
Cresemba, which is the only medication of its kind cost $7000. Cresemba is manufactured by Astellas and distributed by McKesson Corp. McKesson corp has a patient savings program but only offered to people 18 years old and older so Hunter doesn't qualify. After insurance the families copay for this medication is $2238. Hunter needs this medication for at a very minimum 18 months. Hunter has been denied Medicaid and SSI leaving the co pay up to the family.
I’m asking for help for Hunters family to afford this medication for him.
