Donation protected
This GoFundMe page is to support and raise money for the Kay family of Walnut, Iowa, as their daughter Emma fights a rare, but serious blood condition called Aplastic Anemia. In March of this year, Emma (9 years old) was diagnosed with Aplastic Anemia, which is a blood condition that causes the bone marrow to fail to produce enough blood cells needed to fight off infections. Emma will need to have a Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) to help her with this life-threatening illness.
Since March, Emma has needed weekly blood and platelet transfusions and she has been in and out of the hospital fighting this condition and various infections while she waits for a BMT. In August, Emma was accepted by a children's hospital in Aurora, Colorado to have a BMT and Emma's older sister Madison (13 years old) will be the bone marrow donor for Emma. This acceptance by the hospital in Colorado is an answer to prayer but it also begins another step in this challenging journey for Emma and her family.
The Kay family is heading to Colorado on August 8 to begin the process for Emma to receive her BMT. The BMT will require her to undergo radiation treatments and potentially chemotherapy. Emma will likely be hospitalized in Colorado for many weeks, and potentially several months. We believe and know that God is in control and is watching over Emma and her family, and they are going to make it through this difficult season in their lives (1 Corinthians 4:8-12). However, despite never asking for it, they could use our help and support.
We are raising money for the Kay family to cover costs of travel back and forth to Colorado, and help with any unforeseen expenses the Kay family might incur during this time. Many of you reading this have been blessed by the Kay family over the years. You would be hard-pressed to meet a more giving family than the Kays. Please join us in blessing them in this difficult time and help make sure the Kay family has what they need while they are walking through this illness with Emma.
