This past year, 2018, was, to say the least, a challenging one for Kenny McCallick and his wonderful wife, Karen. Kenny was just getting back to work following the passing of his dad, “Big E” McCallick, when, in late summer, Ken was diagnosed not only with diverticulitis, but sepsis as well. Things were touch and go, but the short of it is that Kenny spent the better part of August, September, October and November in and out of 2 hospitals and skilled nursing facilities, enduring several surgeries, dropping in weight from 227 to 170lbs during that span.
Kenny’s definitely improved of late, and he’s walking, exercising, using weights and doing pushups. This is great news, given where he was just a few short months ago. No doubt the prayers that have stormed Heaven have helped.
HOWEVER…Kenny and Karen aren’t out of the woods yet, not by a long shot, with more procedures and surgeries for Kenny still to come. The medical bills are staggering, and it’s high time to ante up for our pal. The sooner, the better.
Kenny is a force of nature, and no mistake. There’s no way one cannot like him from the get-go. It’s a rare instance to find loyalty, intelligence, empathy, spirituality, compassion, thoughtfulness, humor, the gift of gab, generosity, a servant’s heart…well, let’s just call it what it is—Love—so wrapped up in such abundance in one person.
Kenny is always there when you need him. He’s always been ready to pitch in and help. Whether it’s manning the phones for the ADGs or Loyola in general, mentoring young men in rugby from his high school alma mater, Servite, or helping to feed or find employment for the homeless, Ken can be counted on. And he never arrives for dinner without flowers for the lady of the house.
He’s a giver, and no mistake. But, now, it’s Kenny’s turn.
In recent years, the word “INVICTUS” has had special meaning for Ken. For those of you who don’t know Latin, the word means “unconquered.” With a huge “THANK YOU” in advance, let’s lend more meaning to that word for Ken. And please continue to keep Ken, Karen and their family in your prayers! Thank you once again.
