Hi, I'm Amber! I've started this GoFundMe for our beloved Awkward Pastry Chef, Jess.

On Monday 2/20 Jess was taking some rest time out in the desert climbing, and sustained a serious ankle injury: bimalleolar fracture and dislocation (which is a fancy way of saying she broke her ankle in two places and dislocated it). Climbing is one of the ways Jess keeps herself sane so she can make all the amazing things we love to eat.

She's scheduled for surgery Tuesday 2/28 and has to stay on her back for the week prior and likely couple weeks after. She's looking at a long road to recovery... she won't be able to start putting weight on it until 6 weeks post surgery. She is going to need our help to make sure she is resting and recovering, instead of stressing about expenses and loss of income!

Even with good health insurance, the costs are astronomical and already include:

Ambulance ride fees.

Cost to meet deductible for surgery.

Cost for Orthopedic Surgeon.

Separate Anesthesia costs.

Multiple X-rays.

Multiple hospital fees.

Copays for many appointments including pre-op, post op, lab work, 6 months minimum of physical therapy....(All medical only).

Personal needs include Babka care, rent bills, expenses through May.

Much of the money that comes in through Awkward Pastry is going to have to go directly to her assistants and people making deliveries in her place, in order to keep the business going.

Jess wants to get back in the kitchen ASAP, but even best case scenario of physically being back in the kitchen in 3 weeks, everything she does will need to be in a seated position and she will have to direct assistants, and need help with deliveries through May. As a small business owner, there's zero option to take 12 weeks off completely, doing so would be extremely detrimental to Awkward Pastry.
