Widlund Family Guatemala Trip

Last year my daughter Hanna and I had the amazing opportunity to travel to Guatemala for a week of hard work and service with Porch De Salomon.  The experience was beyond anything we could have ever imagined.  As someone who has been on countless ministry trips to other countries, last years trip was the first time I was ever able to go with one of my own.  This year we are doing another first.  Our hope for 2015 is that our entire family, including my brother, will be able to make this trip.  The trip will run about $1500 per person.  We have already raised enough for one person to go and so that leaves 4 more.

From February 14 - 23, 2015 we will be in Panajachel serving with a ministry called “Porch De Salomon”. This year our group will be focusing on the construction of a home for a family in need. To learn more about Porch De Saloman check out the video or read on:

Porch De Salmona works in the following areas:

* Flexible Humanitarian Relief
Porch de Salomon provides food (Guatemala ranks #4 in chronic malnutrition worldwide, per UNICEF), clothing, housing, medicine, surgery, transportation, small business opportunities (like chicken coops), alcohol/drug rehabilitation and more to hundreds of families; indigenous, Latino and other.

* Solomon's Porch Cafe
This important part of their ministry serves the locals, "Anglo" expatriates and world tourists who seek adventure, meaning and more in Panajachel. They help meet the need for accessible, culturally-current ministry in this eclectic and challenging community. Their facility serves coffee, food/beverages, live music and cinema, and hosts a weekly worship gathering as well as school and community functions.
* Live Music Outreach
Lloyd, Melanie and others' long-term involvement in Panajachel's live-music and bar scene (most recently in the band MarcoTrio Electric) has been a great dialogue builder among folks skeptical about their work. This has also been an eye-opener and "breath of fresh air" to visitors who are accustomed to more conventional expressions of faith.
* Help Churches and Folks Transform (Romans 12)
As one of Central America's most progressive Jesus-based ministries, and with their low-overhead/high-impact/ "incarnational" approach to service, they have seen many of their team members and partner churches change for the good-from religion-to-relationship and from maintenance-to-mission. Their leadership is passionate about helping this continue!

As you can see, Porch De Salomon is an amazing center for ministry and to be part of this for a week will be life changing for our entire family. My hope is that you would partner with us in this endeavor through prayer and financial support. Please be in prayer and consider how God might use you in this ministry opportunity. Checks for any amount can be sent to “Ione Community United Methodist Church” PO Box 1046, Ione, Ca. 95640 (Please note “Guatemala - Widlund” in the memo line).  You can also donate right here on Go Fund Me.
