EJ Hardin - son, brother, husband, father

Hey there, my name is Teresa and EJ is my eldest son.
2/20/24
Thank you every single one who has helped our family! EJ has made a fantastic recovery and has been able to return to work. We were truly concerned that he would not.
Thank God for blessings sent!

Thank you for checking in and for your continuing support! Something that we did not understand from the beginning is that he will have to undergo another surgery to actually repair his broken pelvic bone. Internal swelling has to go down in order for this to happen. This takes four to six weeks. The external fixator that we thought was holding a repair in place is actually holding the bones in place until the swelling goes down so the surgeon can go in and install screws and plates so the bones are permanently held in place and heal.
I also want to share a couple of milestones! EJ's colon is mending well and he's got an appetite for greasy cheeseburgers and Mexican The staples from that surgery have been removed.
His hand is also mending well but will remain splinted to allow good bone healing with the pins in place.
The best news is that he is able to transfer from bed to chair!

EJ's FB post:
"Well there are just too many to tag too many I would forget to tag. So I just want to say thank you to all family and friends, friends of family and family of friends who have kept praying and pulling for me thru another tough time. To be able to come thru a situation like this more than once must mean I have a purpose that I still haven't discovered. I definitely never felt like my presence made a difference but apparently my absence would. So thank you everyone so very much for praying to the good lord that I would make it another day. I know I'm happy to still be here for my family, especially my son and daughter. I definitely want to go before them but I don't want them to grow up without their daddy. Thank you everyone! Nothing I can say would express the amount of appreciation I have for all of you!"
**UPDATE**
9/1/23 What a wonderful response from family and friends! We appreciate each and every prayer, act of kindness, and donation SO much!
EJ has made great progress during this last week. So much that he is medically stable for rehab. Now to wait for a bed. We don't know where he will go. For now we will stay at U of L. His team has been and continues to be awesome through his care.

On August 24, 2023 he was taking a relaxing spin on his bike after a hard day's work when a woman pulled out from a side road in front of him in Ballardsville, KY. Within seconds he had 3 choices...rear end her, hit an oncoming truck head on, or take the ditch. He chose the ditch. He nailed a mailbox with his left hand which sent him flying over the bars into a tree. He remembers everything and has relived it over and over.
The woman who pulled out in front of him stopped and identified herself as a nurse. Oldham County Fire and Rescue arrived very quickly and began their mission to save my son. He describes a feeling of being slammed and wrapped around the tree sliding to the ground. They pulled him away from the tree to flatten him and begin care.
His right side took the brunt breaking his pelvis completely in 2, breaking a rib, fracturing S1, L5, L4 vertabrae, damaging his colon (a portion of which had to be removed), and creating internal bleeding which, upon arrival, took 4 hours of surgery to contain.
The next morning he had 4 more hours of surgery to put his pelvis back together and repair his broken fingers.
He is a blue collar worker with no disability insurance and a beautiful family very dependent on his presence and his income. He will continue to be away from his home which includes his wife Amanda, 5 yo Analyn, 1 yo River, ol' man Bear and adolescent Pepper. (Bear and Pepper are their dogs).
We are asking for help to make mortgage payments on their home, provide nourishment for all the babies, and allow family time to tend to EJ as he navigates this long road to recovery.
He has made great strides in the fews days since this awful incident. He has been through 8 hours of surgery, intubation which was extremely difficult and almost happened a 2nd time, but he fought through. His digestive system is struggling to recover. He is in pain and forced to remain immoblile due to the pelvic break.
We have been blessed with his continued presence and would appreciate any support...prayers, ooommms - whatever you do to send positivity his and his family's way.
Thank you for reading this and for any support you are able to provide...leave a note.
