Eithne Anderson Trust Fund has been set up to help secure and allocate funds to further Eithne’s rehabilitation, to ensure improvements can continue to be achieved and enhance Eithne’s quality of life.
On 25th of February 2020, Eithne Anderson suffered a Subarachnoid haemorrhage, the most serious type of brain haemorrhage. She was subsequently rushed to Beaumont Hospital where over the next 6 weeks she was on life support in ICU an underwent numerous surgeries,. The consequence of the haemorrhage would leave Eithne with life-limiting permanent brain injuries. She came back to Sligo Hospital in a deep coma requiring a tube breath. Over the following months, with her family (husband Roy, and children, Barry and Amy) by her side, she slowly started to come out of the coma and into a minimally conscious state.
In September 2020 she was well enough to be transferred to St. John’s Hospital in Sligo to begin rehabilitation. Unable to sit, stand, eat or communicate in any meaningful way, Eithne had a long road ahead of her. This was made even more difficult with Covid-19 in Ireland meaning limited visits from her family. However, Eithne managed to make some small improvements despite these challenges.
In February 2021, Eithne was transferred to the National Rehabilitation Hospital in Dun Laoghaire where she spent 4 months receiving specialist rehabilitation. Eithne made further small improvements which enabled her to finally return home to Sligo.
Upon returning home, Eithne continued to work on her rehabilitation with her daughter Amy who is a Physiotherapist. With the help of her family, she has made some meaningful improvements to the point of being able to enjoy her meals sitting independently in her Queen Anne chair, can achieve standing with assistance of the ‘Sit to Stand Hoist’ and has developed a non-verbal means of communicating. Her carers assist her every day in completing physiotherapy and speech & language exercises, and to engage in meaningful activities e.g. reading, crosswords, chatting with her sisters on the iPad and outdoor excursions. Eithne loves having her family around her, particularly her golden cocker spaniel Roxy and has a deep determination to improve herself and achieve the highest quality of life she can. However, Eithne continues to require 24-hour physical care and assistance with all her personal tasks and therapy which comes at major expense and is why we have set up this donation page.
All donations however little or large are massively appreciated. See out Trust Fund Page https://eithneandersontrustfund.com/ for further info & updates on Eithne's life & rehabilitation.
