If you don't already know us, hi! We're Jenny and Eilidh.
The pair of us have been famously bonkers since the early 2000s, gallivanting around the UK and Europe racing triathlons and making a lot of noise - and now we're running 154 kilometres in support of the mental health charity Mind.
We'll be tackling Scotland's West Highland Way between Milngavie and Fort William from July 19-23. Each of the five days takes in over 30km scrambling over mountains, running by lochs and through forests.
"You're triathletes!" you might think. Yes, well, let us inform you that we have never run further than 21km in one go. And then there's the 3,000 metres of elevation. This is going to be a challenge. We can already picture ourselves, knees knocking on the Devil's Staircase thinking only of cookies. Fort William residents won't know what hit them.
Why are we doing it? Back in December 2020, nine months into the pandemic and midway through another dark, dreary, miserable lockdown, we knew we needed a positive focus - a task we couldn't ignore. We wanted to put ourselves in a tough position, where failure was on the cards, simply with the aim of pushing our limits in an amazing setting.
The past 16 months have been tough on all of us, from isolation to illness, wedding cancellations and mental health reckonings. As we finish our training and get ready to take on this challenge, we'd love to raise money for Mind to help others find peace and positivity when they need it most.
It is due to several injuries that we have started fundraising so late. Now we are sure we're going to make it to the start line (and we're packing the chafing cream and blister plasters) we're ready to get the donations going.
Thank you for any contributions, and please do share widely on social media. We promise we'll scream your name from the top of the Devil's Staircase.
