Eileen Burke was an extraordinary wife, mother and long-time teacher at Marymount here in NYC, who passed away October 3, 2015 at the age of 53 from pancreatic cancer.
Days after her passing, her husband, David, was walking their rescue dog, Duke, in Central Park when he suddenly collapsed and died. Even though Duke was only four years old, autopsy results showed he'd had a heart attack. We can't help but think it was from a broken heart. This story has touched so many people, it even made it in the New York Times .
David and his lovely, 15 year-old daughter, Ann Marie, have suffered unimaginable losses in less than a week’s time. They are establishing the Eileen M. Burke Foundation not only to honor Eileen's life, but to turn their tragedies into good for others.

Details about the foundation below:
1. A soon to be tax exempt foundation dedicated to extraordinary and unique extra curricular, and curricular, experiences
a) close encounters with familiar young adult authors;
b) creative writing intensives, one-on-one
c) literary field trips
d) partial or whole scholarships, stipends, and commisions for young scholars
e) books and learning materials
f) curation of home libraries and learning spaces
2. The Eileen M. Burke Foundation will work with Marymount
a) to annually elect a senior student to serve on its board
b) to gift projects that will benefit students in need
c) to emulate the mind, and heart, of Eileen Burke, who worked hard and well with students who needed her
d) to ask for an annual wish list of both particular and general projects that we can possibly fund
3. Sustainability
a) fundraising with the help of the school’s facilities;
b) off-campus events
c) creating an evergreen partnership with Marymount;
d) a pledge to make Marymount’s needs a priority, every year
e) the flexibility to export our model to other schools, people, and circumstances
