Larry and Sheila were pastor-church planters for 25 years before serving their retirement the last 18 years on the foreign mission field. In October 2022, they returned stateside for furlough to find Larry was diagnosed with cirrhosis of the liver. In just a few weeks, they moved from an AirBnB visiting grandkids to signing a year's lease for permanent transition. Reverse culture shock and complete lifestyle changes were imminent. In 2024, Larry's liver continues to decline quickly as cancerous lesions have been detected, a radiation treatment scheduled, and the hopeful journey towards liver transplant by live donor expected over the next year.
Larry has completed a full evaluation with Ochsner's Medical Center as transplant specialists (#2 in the nation!) in New Orleans. He has been advised that a living donor transplant is his best option because of flexibility and timing in receiving a new liver before it's too late. Most recipients on the donor transplant list die before a suitable liver match is ever found. Meanwhile, he has not been able to work managing his health, and they have quickly gone through savings and some retirement to cover monthly living and medical expenses. We implore friends and family to prayerfully consider giving to the Benson's needs. Funds will go directly to their personal bank account to pay for living and medical expenses.
We thank you so much for your love and support. To God be the glory!
