Donald Trainor is a hero. Simply put. He was my hero when I was 3 years old for walking through the door after work and hoisting me up so I could fly. He was my hero at 5 years old when he taught me to ride a bike. He came to my rescue if I was stranded at a party at 16 years old. He was my personal mechanic in my early 20s whenever I broke down. He helped build two of my houses throughout my mid 20s and early 30s and then...he came full circle by becoming a hero to our two daughters as he helped them to fly. He has literally supported every single decision my brother and I have made in life and continues to be one of our biggest fans.
He gives the best advice including my favourite "99% of what you worry about never happens and the other 1% you have no control of" He has lived a simple life as a loving son and bother, the coolest uncle (that never wears a shirt), a friend you can always count on, devote husband, greatest dad...he is my Papa Trainor, my hero.
Perhaps his most heroic moment was when he saved my mom's life by getting her immediate medical attention after recognizing the signs of stroke. She had suffered a massive one and would never have survived had it not been for him.
But even heroes fall.
My dad has stage 4 cancer and our family's wish is for him to have the best quality of life possible for whatever time he is granted left. He has been the primary caregiver of my mom, unable to work and unable to afford help. My brother and I of course were there whenever we could be..but for the most part, he took every day on himself and got mom through her physical and emotional limitations while maintaining everything else that came their way. He took his vows very seriously 44 years ago, and; in sickness and in health....Dad loved my mom more. It was beautiful to see what true love looks like. Hollywood got it wrong.
Why did my mom survive...yes he got her to the hospital..but did fate have a hand in this? Was she to live in order to take care of him just three years later? In sickness and in health? I believe this. A sign of the bond they have, so rare these days. They both have and will take care of each other always.
These past few years have obviously taken its toll on Don's health(stress really is the root of all evil). But it has hit them hard financially and continues to compound daily. My family and I would like to ask of your support. We have supported and fundraised for many causes and will continue to do so. But, this cause is by far the one that is breaking our hearts. Donald Trainor is the most kind and generous man. A long standing resident of Lower Sackville. He is known for his helping nature and seat at Robins donuts every morning along with a few local watering holes. We are asking you to help him and Olive through the most difficult time of their lives. Their love and devotion to each other is not what we see on the big screen, their "happily ever after" are not what films are made of...but they still deserve it. They deserve to just....be, no worry...just peace.
On behalf of my brother Paul Trainor, I thank you in advance for your support, your positive thoughts, your prayers.
Much love Wanda
