Hello my name is Brenda and at Allerton Cat Rescue I have dedicated over 60 years aiming to make that statement a reality. The rescue was initially housed in outbuildings at Prune Park then, when I moved home in 2002, the rescue moved with me. Little did my husband Peter know that over 80% of his new home would end up as cat and kitten rooms. There is literally a cat around every corner, cat tree and hidey-hole. I open my bedroom door in a morning to be greeted by several cats waiting for their breakfast. These are mostly older cats who for some reason never get chosen but nevertheless get the care they deserve. These are in addition to those cats and kittens kept in kennels (for various reasons) and in five other rooms in the house. My private space consists of a sitting room, bedroom and bathroom and the cats even try to get in there. My daughter Tracy and I are committed to rescuing and rehoming cats and kittens but we cannot do it alone. We live in a world where many cats are abandoned and homeless or worse, are taken for dog baiting. It’s heartbreaking. Throughout the years we have brought countless cats in from the streets to safety, warmth, medical care and love. All the cats in our care get flea and worm treatment, are vaccinated, microchipped and neutered or spayed. There are often underlying medical conditions that also need expensive prescriptions to ease their pain and discomfort. On average we rehome about 1000 cats a year.
The need is urgent and your support is crucial now more than ever. We are supported by a team of loyal volunteers committed to making a difference. Without the help of the volunteers and regular fundraising events we could not survive. The costs of day to day supplies are escalating and we are struggling to keep our heads above water. Annual costs are currently
Hygiene - gloves, aprons, cleaning products, waste disposal £7760
Cat litter - £4560
Cat Biscuits £8,400
Wet food £10,950 – in addition to this specialist food is needed for cats with gastrointestinal issues.
AND, the Veterinary Bills are, on average,£5000 A MONTH
If you could find a way to make a donation, no matter how small, it will make a difference. Here’s how you can help -
£4 will pay for a tin of gastro food which will feed a poorly cat for one day
£38 will pay for 5 litres of Anigiene disinfectant
£70 will pay for a sack of cat biscuits which will last 3 days
£87 will pay for a week’s supply of cleaning materials, essential to keep infections from spreading.
£380 will pay for a month’s supply of cat litter
The costs are never ending. Please help us to save cats and kittens from perishing from hunger, disease and cruelty. Please help us to keep our doors open. Thank you to our donors over the years and thank you to any new donors who are able to support our cause.
Alternatively, your time is precious. If you were able to spare a few hours a week to help at the rescue or our shop you would be made very welcome. Volunteer’s duties vary from general cleaning to medicating and socialising cats. Also, any donations of Bric a Brac for the shop are welcome!!!
Thank you
