Home Invasion Recovery Fund

Donation protected
On Saturday, January 30, 2021, my parents became victims of a second home invasion. Fortunately enough, the two were away at work and thankfully unharmed. However, unlike the first attempt, the perpetrators successfully intruded, and several invaluable items had been destroyed and/or taken from the comfort of our home. It seems as if they had staked out our home for some time now as they broke in through the only window with no sensor. Every bedroom had been ransacked, and all of my parents’ safes had either been broken into or stolen completely. These safes contained none other than their hard earned emergency funds, part of their life savings, life insurance information, and much, much more. A good portion of these funds were intended for my grandparents, one of which had been recently diagnosed with COVID-19 and is currently on his own undergoing treatment.

My parents are two of the most hard-working people I know. With my siblings away from home for school and work, they only have each other and their pets. They manage and run a small take-out restaurant all on their own. When the pandemic arrived last year, their business took a hit. Near the end of 2020, business had finally began to pick up once again. They did not deserve to have all of their hard work and pride stripped away just like that. With the situation as it stands now, my parents cannot afford to stay away from work for long and must work twice as hard to recover from this loss. They’re no longer as young and active as they used to be. Money can be easily replaced, but time will only wear them away. Nothing can replace the feeling of protection and security that we believed we had in that home. Having spent the majority of my childhood in that house, in that neighborhood, only to have someone break into a place I had considered a sanctuary, I feel nothing but humiliation, disappointment, and heartbreak.

My parents provided my siblings and I with everything we needed growing up, and now it’s my turn to give back anyway I can. I am doing my best to provide every ounce of emotional support towards my family, but I am currently unable to financially support my parents all on my own. I am asking for anyone who sees this post to please donate what you can. If you are currently in a financial situation yourself, you can help by spreading this message and sharing it through any social media platform or however you can. Any and all support of any amount or form would be greatly appreciated. These funds would go towards repairs and ideally a new security/surveillance system, as well as allow my parents to take the few days off they need to mentally and physically recover from this incident.

I will do my best to reach out to all of you personally and thank you for your support.

Regards,
Grand Cheung

NOTE: I apologize for the quality of the attached images. I currently live away from my parents and had asked my mom to photograph the aftermath shortly after she found out. The quality may be due to her shock, but I wanted to get this post out as soon as I could. Thank you all once again for your support!
