Hi, my name is Gary and I am Donna Rooney's brother.

Donna is currently in the hospital following a severe car crash on Christmas day, while driving to a family Christmas celebration. Her car was totaled, and she then spent 2 days in the Trauma Care unit and has been in treatment since then and is still in their care at ORMC/Orlando Health.

Very specifically, she suffered a colon seatbelt crush that required resection (removal) of a portion and surgical repair and 2 days later a second for another repair, a transverse lumbar fracture, a breastbone fracture, several cracked ribs and both ankles have been broken, the left one more severely than the right, but she has already had two surgeries to both. The first was to stabilize and splint immediately following the crash. The second was an external fixation of devices for the ankle fractures to both. More surgery will be required for the ankles.

Donna will spend weeks following her hospital stay when it ends, in a rehabilitation hospital for extensive therapy. From that point, we will figure it out as we go. As many of you have experienced, Donna is the caregiver that mothers and protects and she is in the unenviable reverse at this time. She does not have extensive funds and it is unclear what her auto and health insurance will fully cover. There were no witnesses to the crash and although we are researching options, some may be fruitless and may take a long time.

At this point, anything you can spare to help Donna going forward will be solely to support her bills, health care and in time, a car to replace the one that she lost in the crash.

I have been fortunate to have been loved and protected by Donna throughout my life, She has been there for all our family and many friends, many of whom became friends when they were in need and she found out about their troubles. She has always been active with her church and church family helping with fundraisers and events.
