My name is Kathy, my son Cody has been friends with Zach since grade school. Zach and his family lived across the street from us, he has spent many days/nights at our house. It's never easy to see someone you love struggle and feel helpless and you want to do something, but don't know what to do!! Below is a short story of what all has taken place so far, Zach has a long road ahead and your donation will help him and his family more than words can explain.
This young man has been working at Longhorn Harley Davidson since November 2014... On August 21st Zach purchased his first 2015 Harley Davidson Sportster and on August 26th the accident happened...
He WAS wearing a helmet!!!
Newspaper Article - Motorcycle driver injured in Highway 287 collision:
REAGOR SPRINGS, TX — Ennis resident Zachary Reel, 19, was transported to a Dallas hospital after sustaining severe injuries from two-vehicle accident on Tuesday afternoon. Emergency responders were dispatched at about 3:25 p.m. to U.S. Highway 287 near Reagor Springs.
Reel, who was driving a 2015 Harley Davidson motorcycle, was approaching an intersection when the collision took place, said Trooper James Colunga, with the Texas Department of Public Safety Public Information Officer. A car pulled out in front of Reel.
Reel then struck the vehicle in the left rear panel.
“Upon impact, he was catapulted and landed in the middle of the inside lane,” Colunga said.
Colunga said after the accident Reel was talking and was in“serious condition.” Reel was then taken to a Dallas Hospital by a CareFlite helicopter.
Zach has a list of injuries as a result of the accident. He has several breaks in his pelvic bones, break in his left ankle and both wrists. Zach has had three surgeries, so far, to help correct the injuries he sustained. He has permanent screws in the front and back of his pelvis and in his left wrist. He is currently doing in patient physical therapy to gain some strength and learn how to adapt to life in a wheelchair. His pelvic injuries will require him to be non-weight bearing on both legs for the next 8-12 weeks and after that he will slowly work on regaining the ability to walk. Zach has a long road of recovery ahead that is going to require special medical equipment, along with many doctor visits with several teams if doctors.
Your donation will help Zach's family give him all he deserves to recover. His mother, Carrie, should be able to be by his side as much as possible while Zach heals and your donation will help tremendously.
Zach's family wants to say "Thank You" to everyone for the well wishes and prayers to date, we know with the continued love and support from many friends and family members he will get there.
