Support for Nick Ferdman

Since the beginning of January, my parents have been in the hospital with my brother Nick. He had to get a colon surgery which we expected, scheduled, and planned for. The surgery itself went perfectly. Unfortunately, it was discovered that there was a 3mm hole in it which caused an infection to be released into his body. He’s been fighting this infection since then. Nick also has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, which slows down his recovery.

Each week he goes through multiple surgeries in an attempt to remove the infection, but the last surgery proved to not be as effective as the surgeons had hoped. Needless to say, he’s in a lot of pain, on lots of medication, and going through some emotional and psychological struggles.

So where is everything right now? Well, my family was notified after the last surgery that they could be there from one to SIX more months. For my family this means up to six months without my dad receiving full pay to cover the bills at home, six months of my sister and I seeing them once a week for a few hours, six months of Nick having to withstand often excruciating pain, and six months of them living in a hospital room.

Alright, so that was a lot of background; what am I asking for help for? Well, a lot. There are a lot of financial things that my sister, extended family, and I are trying to cover while my parents and Nick are up in Delaware:

Here is our list:

- Cover my parents’ monthly bills
- Have a contractor come out and make house adjustments so Nick can come back to a comfortable, fully accessible house
- Repair my dad’s car
- Put a fund together to repair the van Nick is transported in
- Integrate some smart home technology into Nick’s room so he can do more things on his own just by the sound of his voice
- Put a vacation fund together for my parents
- Purchase a dishwasher
- Buy anything Nick’s heart desires (fun stuff like video games, movies, etc.) while he is in the hospital
- Buy some new clothes and set up a haircut for Nick when he comes back so he can feel confident even in the midsts of the extra life adjustments he’ll have to make when he comes back.

This is a lot, I know. We know that one way or another, God will allow them to come back to a home where they can forget about extra stresses, feel confident, and be able to rest after such an exhausting season.

If you feel lead to help in any way, shape, or form, don’t hesitate to shoot me a message. We would be immeasurably grateful.

In addition to all of this, I would like to put together something to motivate Nick and my parents through the hardest times in the hospital. If you could leave a comment on this post or message me some words of encouragement, I would super appreciate it. I want to gather all of the comments together and put them in a digital picture frame to place in their hospital room.

Above all, please pray for my family and for Nick’s healing. It has been a journey so far. I never in my life thought I would ask for this much from friends, family, and even some strangers. But I know that God will allow blessing to come from this difficult moment in our lives.

Thank you for reading all the way to the bottom of this long post. I am so thankful for you.
