Kaisers surgery ✨

Hi, my names Beth and I’m fundraising for my dog Kaisers upcoming surgery.

To give a bit of background, Kaiser - my 7 year old German shepherd - unexpectedly came back into my life April this year.

I booked him into the groomers, and the vets shortly after for a routine checkup. At this first groom, the staff noticed a little lump on Kaisers bum which they advised to mention to the vet. Little did I know this would be the start of a lengthy, emotional process.

Kaiser was initially misdiagnosed with a perineal hernia and referred to a specialist veterinary centre in Wigan. It was here where underwent a CT scan and he was then diagnosed basically a medical mystery.

He was suffering from a fecaloma (major constipation) caused by a mega colon, which in turn also caused a rectal tear. It was believed that this was due to an enlarged prostate and the initial step was to neuter him and to continue with medical management. The plan after this was to see if medications would reverse his mega colon, and then look at surgical options to repair everything going on with Kaisers bum.

At this time, Kaiser was continuing to struggle with constipation and was put on multiple medications to be given 3 times a day.

From then, it’s been multiple vet visits, constant medical management and a couple of really bad days.

On his most recent bad day, he was taken to our local vet as an emergency and the advice that followed was to consider euthanasia. Hearing this broke my heart, thinking I would have to say goodbye so soon when he had only just come back to me.

I spoke with Kaisers vet at Wigan, who had done some further research and managed to find a surgical option that had good chances of improving Kaisers quality of life, and our final hope as medical management is just not a sustainable long term option for him anymore.

He was due to undergo this surgery in the past week, however Kaiser was urinating blood in the weeks before going in. He had samples tested which were coming back as normal. When taken into Wigan, they got the same results but Kaisers vet knew something was not right and did further testing - discovering Kaiser had a severe UTI. Due to the location of where Kaisers surgery was due to happen, he was now far too high risk of getting sepsis during surgery and it was therefore postponed - but this recent visit cost another £1,328 hence the reason for this Gofundme.

Due to the timing of taking Kaiser into the vets initially, and the lump being identified by the groomers within days, even if I had insured Kaiser the very second I got him back he would never have been covered. This means everything is being paid for out of pocket. To date, Kaisers vet visits and medications have come to just over £6000.

When this all began, I initially thought this would cost under £4000 and that would be it, but with the continued hurdles and Kaisers condition not being as straight forward as initially thought, everything is quickly adding up.

With Christmas looming, and the ongoing uncertain nature of Kaiser, money is getting tighter so when someone suggested a GoFundMe I thought it would be a good option.

I’m hopeful that his next visit will be his surgery, and this is going to be around £2500 to £2800. It would be really appreciated for any donations towards this cost, to help give Kaiser a better quality of life and a chance of being a normal dog again. Any donations no matter how small would mean the world, and would help alleviate part of the stress caused by all of this.

He is the best dog, and continues to be such a happy playful lad despite all the pain he is in

Thank you for reading this far, I appreciate it.
