Ego to Paris Fund

More than 15 years ago, Ego Shine brought his shoe shine expertise to the Capitol Hill Club. Some know Ego from 23 previous years at International Square, where he had the opportunity to meet many “movers & shakers.” One proud moment from his long career was an invitation to the White House where he shined President Reagan’s shoes.

Ego’s shoe shine journey has been documented in the news and even a graphic anthology called District Comics. He was once hailed as ABC News’s “Person of the Week.”

You may have noticed lately; Ego’s hours of availability have altered. It’s because he’s currently undergoing radiation therapy fighting prostate cancer as a patient at Washington Hospital Center.

In conversation, once we learned of his prognosis, Ego told us about always wanting to go to Paris. We also learned that he’s never left the country.

Ego's dream is to go and experience Paris before he leaves this earth. He’s heard so many fantastic stories and has only seen them well documented in film and media. Paris is a global center for art, fashion, gastronomy and culture and it is fitting that it’s at the top of his bucket list. Ego loves fashion and being in the world's fashion capital would be a dream come true. He tells us he's ready to see the Eiffel Tower in person.

Help us help Ego get to Paris. We’re pulling our resources together to organize a 5-star experience for Ego and his wife Dolores. A small group of professionals from his legal case and the club are collecting donations to pay for all travel expenses, meals and accommodations as well as a translator and tours via this fund. We are also collecting Euros (to pack a money belt for him).
